I am currently seeing
Memory Usage 250,000 K plus (drops to about 45,000K when SL window minimised)
VM size 270,000 K plus
I am running the Nicholaz viewer version i
I have a AMD athlon processor
1.67 GH, 768 MB of ram
Radeon 9550 graphics
is this normal?
I seem to recall a few updates ago i was seeing figures of 80,000K mem usage, dropping to 20 when minimised.
Crashing out of SL continuously at the moment.. sometimes i get to stay in for more than a n hour, sometimes crash after five minutes.

I am currently seeing Memory Usage 250,000 K plus ... If you're having problems, it's not with your memory usage... Unless you only have 256MB RAM. Then you will go into memory paging (reading/writing memory from/to disk to run more code than actually fits in memory) which will slow your performance. If you have 512MB or better (1GB is preferred) then you should be fine with that memory usage. ( Just FYI: my memory usage usually goes up over 1,250,000KB (1,250MB, 1.25GB) on fully loaded sims. ) _____________________

Checking my task manager - Secondlife.exe
Cpu shows 22 - 56% - Memory shows 638,804k Second life has some very tight polling. Yes I would say its normal. Vista Buisness Intel core duo ATI 1950XL 4 gig memory 2 baracuda SATA - raid 1 _____________________

Wow!! How come your memory usage is so low!?
I wish mine were that low! Even the Nicholaz viewer is using 250mb of memory and nearly 400mb of Virtual Memory for me. I dare not look how much the official client uses lest the forbidden knowledge melt my brain. _____________________

Imogene, are you using the right version of SL with your Nicholaz version. I say that cause I was having problems until I realized that the most recent version of the Nicholaz viewer works with the second to last SL viewer 1.18.12 not the most recent 1.18.20.
Once I uninstalled 1.18.20 and installed 1.18.12 and used the more recent Nicholaz version,things are a lot better and no crashes! I also uninstalled all my old versions of First Look and Beta too in an effort to bribe the computer gods. 1.18.12 is still available at http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/08/24/httpgetsecondlifecom/ My memory usage is very high too. |

thank you all for your replies... its good to know i am normal... even better than some! I cant work out though, how i used to see much much lower figures ...
I am using the pre voice version of the client, with the latest version of Nicholaz for pre voice. Voice crashes me out in about a nano second, if i can get into SL at all. I know its my graphics card which is giving me trouble, I cant afford a new one right now (errors and crashes with ati2mtag in the event logs) so i am trying to nurse the pc through this time, hence my questions. thanks all... i love the forum hugs Imogen _____________________
