We had a bunch of stuff show up on our land today with my partner's name on it. It showed up when neither of us was there and she does not recognize some of the items. It is possible to create something with somone else's name on it?

It's definitely possible to make stuff that shows someone else as the creator. All you need is one modify/copy item from that person, and you can edit it into anything you like.
It's not so easy to make someone else the owner of an rezzed object, one has to receive a copy to inventory or buy it. Groups can have things given (deeded) to them, if someone has the right permission to do that. |

Yes. If they are able to get a full perm prim from you. It can be used to make any object with you as creator.

It is possible to create something with somone else's name on it? I suppose there may be exploits that do that, but another possibility is a scripted object owned by your partner that is rezzing other stuff; that other stuff would be owned by whoever owns the object that does the rezzing. Also, when SL is being really stupid, it will sometimes fail to populate the editor tool with the correct information, and just redisplay whatever information was displayed before. A script could tell the actual information, or you could wait until SL is better behaved (if that's the problem) and see if the information changes. _____________________

Yes, it sadly is possible.
The most common method is using a full perm object created by someone, and change it to something else. There have also been reports even of objects showing someone else as their owner, so some griefing hacks to do this seem to exist. They're gladly very uncommon (and seem to be impossible to find, so it's probably an insider hack from some small group), but if you see someone rezzing objects that show someone else as owner, then immediately warn the person who's name is being spoofed and also file an AR against the person doing this. |

First, there's a difference between object creator and object owner. I assume you're talking about object owner.
It is generally NOT possible for one person to rez an object and that object to be owned by someone else. If this happens, it's a serious bug in SL and would cause real havoc. It would enable the griefer tool to end all griefer tools. I'm confident that this is not a common issue, or we'd all be knee deep in crap. However, it IS possible for an in-world object owned by your partner to rez objects, and these objects would show up as owned by your partner. The creator name for these would be whoever created the prim they were made of, and *might* yield a clue. But, as mentioned above, if A creates a prim and distributes it full perms, B can turn it into nearly anything but A still appears as "creator". So, you can't rely on "creator" to be meaningful. Most of the time it is, but there's no guarantee. So, if your partner recently was given something that they set out, it's possible that it's rezzing these objects. In the "view" menu, you can turn on beacons for scripted objects. Try this and see if you find anything suspicious. As mentioned above, it might just be that SL is slow in updating the edit panel info; double check that to see if the other fields (name, description, etc) are changing when you select different objects. There are also a few other unsinister possibilities, involving SL bugs or your partner doing things inadvertently. (If your partner never builds or scripts, the "inadvertent" possibility is quite a bit smaller.) |

Another thing is that anyone can steal objects, putting their own name on it. This is done by using a special Viewer (such as the popular CopyBot) that copies the object, regardless of the permissions. Then the thief re-rezzes the object under their own name (that is, some account they control). This puts their name as both Creator and Owner.
It is not supposed to be possible to put someone else's name as Owner on an object, though. As others have noted, the most likely explanation would be that you really did rez the object yourself, but without knowing about it. This is accomplished by giving you an object with a script in it that rezzes things obn your behalf. Since you are the owner of the rezzer, it rezzes things in your name. This puts your name as both Creator and Owner. And as long as I'm summarizing here: the third thing is that if you create an object, and transfer it to someone with Modify permission, they can alter the object and make it into anything. This kind of object has your name as Creator, and their name as Owner. |

Could a database glitch do something like this? She didn't rez the objects and had not put anything out. Was gone all day. I was there and saw nothing till after I took a break and we both got on at the same time.

I guess a hypothetical database glitch could do anything, but this is just not something people see happening (other than the "glitch" of sorts where the viewer shows some information about a different object than the one you've just clicked on).
The responses here have been trying to guess: Is the wrong name appearing for creator, or for owner??? If owner, could she actually operate on the objects as owner (take them into inventory, etc.)? _____________________

Caveat: The glitch I am about to describe I have not seen in world in a LONG time.
There used to be a glitch where if you tried to rez something, an object or a prim or whatever, sometimes it would not show up. Then a few hours, days, weeks, months later it would suddenly just BE THERE. Is it possible these are things that were rezed long ago and forgotten? |

You point at the ground right in front of you and rez something. It doesn't show up, but then later on (usually the same day) you find it somewhere else (such as up in the air, in the opposite direction from where you were pointing). |

It's also possible that your partner rezzed a coalesced object, maybe a build they'd made some time ago and forgotten quite how bit it was or what was in it.
