Did you read the quote in the comments from Jack Linden during one of his office hours? Unbelievable!

He doesn't think anyone's really all that upset about the new policy, since fewer than 10 people have said anything to him against it. He obviously doesn't bother to look at any of the feedback to blog posts in the 'further conversation' threads then. Quelle surprise.

While I agree with you, I gotta say, the overall outrage against this policy has been substantially quieter than, say, the "Save Our Sims" protests when the Openspace policy changed, or the protests around casinos having to close. I expected to see much more of a fight.

Of course, this could be because people in the wake of the Openspace policy have come to a place where they feel LL will not back down to consumer pressure, rather than being an accurate reading of the anger towards it.

I think they've figured out how to defeat us when we protest thier crazy decisions. They just ignore us and pretend everything's going smoothly. That and, as much as I hate to be one of those people that always says things like this: they lie about what they're doing. Or, at the very least, be misleading.

Thanks I do agree with you that the outcry is not as big because people are not fully aware in world nor do they realize the full potential damage this will do a lot of businesses in SL, not just Adult. LL will not tell everyone either until it is to late, Lambs to the slaughter springs to mind

This is one of the reasons i am trying to get as many to vote as possible. If this goes through in its present form i do believe it will give LL the ability to push any major change against the population without any problems. Adobe did the same thing with its UK Customer service when they moved it to India, No they said we are not going to move anything else, well within 6 months of that change going through there has been a complete restructure and they have moved the UK Technical support to India and downsized all the other language operations.

So if they can do it i am sure LL will think nothing at cleaning up as they see fit, whats next Kid avatars, Furries and the list goes on, so I would say to anyone, don't think you are safe here as LL has shown it will do whatever it wants and at whatever costs to the customer base.

No I don't think the sky is falling in but I think SL has changed and will be a different SL after this for everyone.

If this sh*t and discrimination goes forward I may indeed just quit SL completely. Only some small money left in the game. More importantly some friends but they also keep disappearing as the places that were fun to hangout. So what for get high blood preasure? The Lindens want exactly that, all of us out.

There might also be less of an outcry because those who are usually vocal, feel it will not affect them.

For me, it will not affect me as I do not do anything or shop for anything that would be classified as adult, even by a long stretch.

I could easily and comfortably live my SL as PG or even G and have no problems with adult being elsewhere.

So, I am only one person, how many others are like me... who do not feel the need to be vocal, or heck, how many out there actually like this idea, but dare not say anything for fear (or wish to avoid the drama) that would be sure to follow (with folks coming down on them because they might like the idea of a separate adult continent).

This is not discrimination it is segregation which was bound to happen.
(much like the adult movies in a video store)

I still do not see it as discrimination as it would most often (not always but most often) be used on SL for adult sexual situations (well in my opinion)

I voted. While I tend to stick to mostly PG kind of things, I'm an adult. I want my adult choices. If I want a kid-friendly place, I'll go play on places like FusionFall.

This is more like going to an adult video store and being carded on your way in the door, only to find that the only movies you can find are all PG, the adult movies are in the back where you have to be carded a second time. Since everybody on the grid has been required to enter into a legally binding contract, including stating that they are in fact 18 or older. Those who aren't are criminals. This grid is already for adults only, which is what makes it the adult video store.

Halfway down the page are names and addresses going up of dead people that Aristotle accepts as verification as they (Aristotle) require only "True" information not that the information is yours.

LL accepts the token that Aristotle sends back and hey presto you are verified for LL and have not broken any rules.

Please ensure that you pass this around to anyone that does not want to enter their own private data. I assume this works for any account irrespective of where you live as LL only require this token and Aristotle supply it with the true data on this web page.

I think the majority do not know what is really going on...myself included. More than half the people I talk to in SL do not realize what is happening, and do not understand the implications to SL as a whole. I have tried to read everything I can about this...but find so much of the information is not factual. Info from the Lindens is skimpy at best and always subject to disbelief. In some of my groups they are announcing as a fact that the teen grid is merging with the next release..and I do not believe this is true...but really have no idea. I have heard opinions and rumors but still have no information that is understandable...except there IS a big change coming...and SL may never be the same for most of us.

After giving it a lot of thought..I am going to go vote for the Jira...not because I know how this change will affect me personally...but because we deserve a say in such a major change and we deserve the truth.

Which we are not getting.

I see it as more of being a member of the video store (which of course they ask for id when you sign up for membership, then when you go the backroom you would have to prove age, well in the case of the video store, they see you in person, see your photo id at sign up, so no need to card a second time, but they do keep the adult stuff behind the closed door, and those underage will be kept out.

Rhaorth, the problem is that statement you made, that they keep the underaged people out of the adult room. This is the adult video store, underaged people already are not welcome here. So there are no underaged people to keep out of that special room they want to create anyway. Yes, I do believe the grids are merging, but supposedly this is not being done for that purpose. And this assertion that this is what the residents want? I don't believe it for a nanosecond.

Who knows what they have up their sleeve or what has happened that we are not told about.

Again, for me it comes down to the fact that I do not care.
It doesn't affect me, won't change my SL (actually it might change it to be more enjoyable as I dislike the "adult" side of SL)

why do you think we deserve to have any say or know any "truth"?

If walmart decided to change something at their store, do you think we have a say or deserve to know why they are making the chance?

SL is a business, a private business, they owe us nothing.
No one forces us to use it, no one forces us to pay, we choose to, and just because we choose to use SL doesn't mean we have any rights to anything or deserve to know anything concerning their business decisions.

That would be like saying... oh for instance...
Let's say you have a store in SL (I do not know if you do or not), and you decide to make a change to your store, and you put some stuff in an area that requires folks to be part of a group to get access to... do you think shoppers at your store deserve or have a right to know why you made the changes you did or have a right to know why you make the business decisions you do?

If they were business partners then sure they deserve and should know about business decisions.

I think a lot of folks tend to forget SL is a business run by LL.

And I think a lot of folks and LL forget there wouldn't be much of a business without the money we have poured into it. Probably less and less as they keep alienating people.
