On my OpenSim standalone, downloaded from OpenLife, prims aren't phantom. Sometimes there are problems with prims becoming phantom, but most are solid.

You have to understand Ciera that Second Life uses a commercial physics engine, Havok, which allows for colliders and other interactions of non-phantom objects. OpenSim, being entirely open source at the moment, only allows very basic physics engines, some of which will allow non-phantom interaction. You need to check the OpenSim site for your physics engine plug-in options and may need to compile the simulator yourself.

Ultimately the OpenSim people talk about Havok, which won't be cheap, or more established open source physics options which won't be as good. Yet another reason OpenSim is a fool's errand.

open the opensim.ini file and replace basic physics with
From: someone
physics = OpenDynamicsEngine

then restart your sim by shutting down the console and reexecuting the opensim.exe and it will take affect
