Special surnames....

Apart from the obvious one of Linden, are there any other surnames reserved for special user groups of residents in SL. I read on another forum that some of the UK representatives of LL are called 'OnTyne' or something. What other reserved surnames are there?

Weren't there some Dells early on? I had a holdout block on the edge of my land which was owned by a Dell and featured nothing more pleasing than a rotating picture of her damn dog.

I believe large organisations can specify a custom surname (at a price) for their members. Usually large companies setting up a presence in SL.

$500, plus $500 per year, actual RL surnames not allowed (must be a company or organisation name), numbers relatively unrestricted.

There was the famous Molotov Alva, star of those very insightful and entertaining videos about transferring his entire existence to SL.

Vanity names are available at Linden Lab's discretion, generally for events that involve major press or TV coverage, or provide significant publicity value, such as nationwide TV coverage. Upon creation of an approved vanity name, the designated owner will be billed a US$50 setup fee plus the first annual US$50 fee. On each anniversary date, the owner will be billed US$50 to retain vanity name account ownership.

* Vanity name requests must reflect real life names. Please no requests for "Santa Claus," "President Lincoln," or the like.
* In some cases, a vanity name may already exist and we will not be able to create it for you.
* Approved non-profit and educational requests will receive a 30% discount on these fees.

There are actually a lot of corporate names. I think Anshe has ACS. I think IBM has one.

Then there is GossipGirl rofl. LL actually made that one for public use. And now the sponsor left SL.

There is a RL Francesca Alva - a model. I didn't know that when I chose the surname and couldn't understand all the unsolicited tps I kept getting from Italian guys. LOL

Cascadeo, Comsys, Mole, Ontyne are contractors, LLQABot and Tester are Lindens mucking about with whatever it is they muck about with.

Kurt Vonnegut had his real name, too.

Tester is the other last name that Lindens use when they want to test stuff but don't want the extra (godlike) baggage of the Linden name.

edit: And ComSys is for the 3rd-party grid monkey company that LL hired out.

SunMicrosystems exists and there is one for IBM employees, and definitely ACS for Anshe's corp. I'm sure there are others.

The bad thing about the SunMicrosystems surname is that it is required that the first name be your RL first and last name -- but those accounts are only used for business, so that is probably not as bad.
