I discovered yesterday that if you Mute somebody, not only do you not get their chat, or their IMs, or things they try to send you...but now their appearance in world is (nearly) deleted as well!
The Muted avatar appears as a pale gray silhouette, and their movement is at a reduced frame rate, about 1-2 fps.
It's about as close to erasing somebody from your world as it's possible to get. Bravo, LL.

Not true for me. I muted someone a week ago and they were able to drop notecards into my inventory and I was able to see them. I wish they would go away though. lol

Sounds like a cool feature! If I could log in right now (which does not appear to work due to the usual >50k SL borkiness) I would immediately try it out by muting the next best passerby.

It really works. Every idiot loitering in the infohub near my parcel is a quiet grey. So we can help the technicolor noobies and avoid the troublemakers.

From: Macphisto Angelus It's on the RC right now. One more reason I might have to break down and actually use that version more often.

I wonder if there is any connection with the report of a "transparent avatar" that appeared in the past month or so.
I wonder if that person got their problem solved.
And I'd just decided to stop using the RC owing to memory leaks.

I've never muted anyone. I've muted objects that spammed but I've never muted people. Here's why; I learned how to ignore them completely. This is something I learned in Middle School and it is very effective and still let's me know what someone might be saying and if that includes slandering others. Just tell someone they are muted but don't mute them just ignore them. You have the power to not respond.

The ones on my mute list were neighbors that were always Shouting so they could all hear each other across the entire parcel. Muting them kept all of that constant shouting out of my chat window. /me thinks now that she doesn't live there anymore, she can probably remove them from the mute list - hmm what a thought.

That's been there since RC0 . Only works if you have avatar imposters checked though. Other fun mute "feature" (aka bug): if someone has too many particles to your liking, mute them and then just instantly unmute. Their bling will be gone for as long as you both stay within each other's draw distance.

muting the owner shouting griefer cubes is a good way to get rid of the spam, this would make finding the person in the colorfull mass a bit easier too

But this doesn't mute prims unless they're attached, does it? Mind you, I don't mute too many people.. mostly pregger bellies and Xcite toys

This sounds like the same kind of "feature" as the amazing "Ruth Mode" that became popular last year.

Great to hear. I tested it and it even says (muted) by your name so the newbie who accidentally muted you will know what they did.

From: Macphisto Angelus Baby jumps happily within mommy's belly. Baby is hungry. Yeahhhhh... And lets not forget the broadcast of Prim-mommy-to-be's cravings. Mommy wants strawberries! Seriously, I'm happy they took this *ahem* baby step on extending the powers of muting. Now, if they'd visibly mute prims, I'd be tickled.

From: Kitty Barnett Other fun mute "feature" (aka bug): if someone has too many particles to your liking, mute them and then just instantly unmute. Their bling will be gone for as long as you both stay within each other's draw distance. It's not a bug, but a feature. And it doesn't mute the particle emitting from the avatar, but the particle *emitted (already) by the av, in example if the emitter starts again llParticleSystem they will reprise. This is the fastest way to discover particle spammers within a dense area, you cannot identify a particle griefer with beacons, neither it seems there's any reliable information on the particles data (debug), so the only way (pretty fast really...) is to start to mute the "candidates" (usually alt/noobz) until the particles are gone (they will disappear instantly... all of them) and so you have the ztoopid to ban/kick/makefunof.

Mind you, I don't mute too many people.. mostly pregger bellies and Xcite toys Actually it mutes anything the muted person owns, whether attached to them or not. A neighbor left a particle generator near one of my rentals and the particles were entering the house and bothering my tenant. I had her mute the neighbor and she got instant relief even though the neighbor wasn't even present.
