First, I'm a noob. A fast learning, mature sort of noob, who is crazy for SL after only three days because of the seeminly limitless artistic and creative possibilities it presents (that, and I've met some genuinely nice people in this very short time, that speaks volumes for any online environment).
And, I'd like to show my appreciation to one of those people, who happens to be as new as I am, with a token gift. Now, I don't want to just drag something off my inventory onto her profile - I'd like to actually "hand" her something.
Is this possible on any level?
Thanks --

Ghosty Kips Meet them in world, and give them a boxed gift (drop it onto their avatar) and watch them open it. Better still, MAKE a gift !

Well...kinda? One way would be to rez it somewhere and have them buy it for 0 L$, but I always find that a bit impersonal...
My preferred method is to make a gift box or something that when they touch it (ONLY THEM) it gives them the gift. I can give you a script to do this if you like..could even give you a gift box lady if you need one.
Anyhow no way to visibly 'hand' them the object unfortunately, without lossa work, including scripts, animations, and objects.

I have a large silver trophy on a wooden plinth and I give copies of it to people sometimes.

Welcome from slow learning Oldbie. You can send gifts via profile, make or have objects that resemble gift boxes and have some one copy or buy item for 0, Get gift certificates or gift items from various places but I don't know of any way to actually have the animations of giving a gift like you would in The Sims Online or First Life.

I found gift boxes somewhere in-world. Try search. I'll check as soon as I get online and see if I can find it. I think they were selling them for 1L - it was just a box that looked like a present. They had several to choose from.
If I find it, I'll give you a landmark, but you should have no trouble searching "gift box" or something like that.

Are they hard to find? Unless the box contains an animation that forces the avatar to "open" the box, and "remove" an item (which would be a generic item, not the one you put there) then no, you can't watch them PHYSICALLY do it.

I find a store I like with an owner I trust. I find the item and ask the store owner to deliver it with a notecard from me. I sent some gifts this way and they were a big hit.

That would be great ... understood I don't get the pleasure of "watching them open it",, but something in a gift box is still closer to what I have in mind than not. I'm at work and won't be home for several hours; that bookmark would save me a bit of time. Assuming I can add whatever item I like to the box, like a bit of jewelry or whatever?

"CX" That would be excellent too, but I haven't been here long enough to know who those shop owners are. :/

Typically they are mentioned in the forums as recommended providers of various products. One of those people is Lissy Smythe who makes beautiful flower arrangements.

I hate to self promote, but I do make something that might work for what you need. I have a script that you can put in any gift box that you want (the script package comes with 3 basic boxes). You set the date it can be opened after, and who can open it. When the recipient clicks on it it gives them an "open" or "shake" option. And IMs you when they shake or open the gift. It playfully scolds the recipient for trying to open the gift if it's before the set time. I don't have any animations in it however, although it's a great idea. if you want to take a look at it online: http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=458116or in game i have a demo: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bloodlines/83/145/28

From: Ghosty Kips And if you could send me a landmark to your nodded-at shoppe, much appreciated Click on Search, go to either the All tab or the Places tab (probably the Classifieds tab as well, LOL) and type in "Motion Merchant." His shop should come up in the lists. Alternately, Search in People for "Johan Durant" and then in the Picks tab on his profile, you will see his shop listed (I certainly hope so, and /me smacks Johan if it isn't.) You can teleport around from those listings.

You can make a gift box yourself - even a clod like me can manage that. www.mermaiddiaries.com has a tutorial. Matika Wombat also did a tutorial on how to make ballons, with a kit with stuff in you can use. IM me if you want a copy (I think I still have it).
