I have a white spot floating above my head (c. 0.25m). Does anyone know what has caused this and how I can get rid of it.

The "dot" means that you have "Voice" turned on. It's a little advertisement to everyone around you, that you can hear them talking via voice. Disable voice, and the dot will go away.

Thanks in advance for your help. You have voice activated. You might have done it accidentally when you downloaded an updated viewer or something. Go to preferences, Voice and deactivate it. That should take care of it. Edit: /me glares up and shakes his fist at Winter. Beaten to the answer again!!

Bodger - it means you have voice enabled, to get rid of it, go into preferences and disable voice.......

..or, if you want to use voice, and have a microphone, you can just click the 'talk' button so others with the dot are able to hear you

It means that LL had identified as a potential trouble maker and that they are watching you... Make sure you don't stray into any of the bad places in SL as it will go in your permanent record.
The only way to get rid of it is making sure that you talk to Phillip Linden and petition to be removed from the list, i heard it works if you write your petition on the back of a $100 dollar bill... They might remove the white dot mark after they are convinced you pose no danger to any of the innocent and virginal residents of this metaverse.
