I did something stupid last year and made someone an owner of my group, umm is there anyway I can get them off being an owner, short of deleting the group? I cant really delete it because I have so many ppl in it. I am the only other owner, btw. Oh, also, they wont leave the group on their own accord, you know, being a butthead kind of thing.

As far as I know there isnt anything you can do. I suppose you could ask a linden to help take away their owner status, but I dont know if they would actually do that. Always best to use officers in the future, the last person you would think of to turn into a butthead always surprises you in SL lol. Good luck =/

I don't think you can even delete the group as long as there's one owner in it. They have as much rights to the group as you do. It's one of those sucky lessons you learn the hard way.

You can, the OP would have to empty out the group so its just them and the other owner, then they can drop their owner status and just leave the group. Since, at that point, it will only be one member the group will dissolve.

Lindens will not (are not allowed to) intercede in such affairs in 90% of the cases. all the same, be sure to log any chat/IMs with the co-owner in case such need arise that they be removed due to such things as harassment.

Don't beat yourself up, Yummy. It's really only dumb, stupid, and retarted if the group owns land.

Oh it for sure wouldnt be easy, nothing while dealing with buttheads in SL ever is. This is the one downside to having join owners, you never know when things will change between you and them.

I remember a thread here a while back.
A group had land and a group-owned build. One owner sold all the assets to himself. The group then owned nothing. Inter-resident dispute. No Linden possible. I think that there have been a few SL-style divorces like this. Fortune favours the quick. The OP was very annoyed. _____________________

You could basically do the following to solve this problem:
Create a new group and invite the members of the old group. Send a group notice from the old group and then eject all members. Close the group settings so nobody can freely join. I would stay in the group in case the other person decides to do things with your group name at least you can be there to manage it. Make the new name of the group easy to see that its the NEW group. _____________________

Also, I'd like to point out the need to stay int he group as the other owner would only have to invite in new members (or an alt) to keep the group active.
And as other said, Yummy, don't beat yourself up. It speaks a lot of you to place your trust in another. Sadly, those that have the biggest hearts are the ones to feel the heartache most keen. *big hugs to Yummy* ~Jessy _____________________

I am not sure about this, but have you just tried to eject them from the group to see what happens. I would like to know the answer to this one myself. You might want to make an alt, then make it an owner and try a few different things to see if you can get it out. Let us know how you get it done Yummy.

Once you make someone an owner in a group, they are there until they feel like quitting. They have all powers and abilities. So always be careful when you give someone owner status. _____________________

Yep this is what I had to do one night when it was late and I was tired I invited someone to group as owner instead of resident (this was a group that I had one of my estates set to). Talk about an 'oh shite' moment. The only thing I could do was start another group, invite everyone in the old group to the new group (with an explanation of what had happened)...throw everyone out of the old group, including leaving it myself and add this guy as 'resident' rather than owner. It was a horses arse of a job but better that than the consequences of leaving things as they were. _____________________

If you're the original owner and only one owner is allowed per group couldn't you change permissions and roles?

for a measly L$100, just make a new group, invite everyone over, delete them from the other, and leave it. it'll either dissolve in 2 days or the other person will get other ppl to join... either way, you'll be out of it!

Back in the day the Lindens would grant the creator of the group the favor of making owners they no longer wanted into members. Then you could kick. I think you have to prove the person is a detriment to the group. Or policies have changed and they no longer do that. I do not think it is fair that group creators must be stuckwith partners they no longer want.

I find it stupid that the "Founder" can't delete whomever they want. Its another one of those little protection/privacy things that are overlooked. Kinda like when you DO NOT want a person knowing you're online, they IM you anyways and it goes through without telling them you're offline. So stupid.

It still remains that if you are the founder of the group you can send a request to the lindens to have a person removed from the group. It has been this way for quite some time and I've heard nothing at all that states this has changed. Put in a request via email to the lindens stating your reasons for the request.
I've been part of Live Help and now the Mentors group and have heard nothing about this being changed. ~B |
