Christmas Charity Locations?

Hiyas!

I'm going to be doing a charity this season, to help a few families in my area who aren't fortunate enough to have the christmas (Or hannukah, etc.) that some of us can... most of it will be out of my pocket, but I'd like to extend it into SL in these ways:

-Have donation jars in a few locations, with all donations going to this fund (I know maybe some people wouldn't trust it, but I hope...)
-Start list of in-world avs (Child avs when possible) and a gift for each of them, with around 200-300 people total in-world to give gifts to (I've started this already, as of last night.)
-Wander SL spreading cheer, giving out little gifts (Candy canes and teddy bears and such), and collecting any donations anyone might be willing to give to the cause.
-hold a christmas party at my Home in-world a couple weeks beforehand, with donation jar there too, and freebies/cheapies like the teddy bears and such again...

So, my questions are thus:

Do you think this would be a good idea/work at all?
and
Where might I find places willing to allow me to put up donation jars for free? (Rent would defeat the purpose partially unfortunately)

NOTE:: I know there are organizations that do this as well in RL, but in my area there are only maybe 2 or 3 families who end up helped by that, as I live away from the towns in the area. In my area there are probably 400-500 families, and maybe 4 at most are helped by these larger charities, since they are based in the towns. I'd like to do something to help them myself, if only a little. I've already got 4 families who I know for sure I'll be helping, just from my pocket, and any donations from SL will give me a chance to help more.
