Magenta Glow Blinking on and off?

I was trying to build in a sandbox a few moments ago when I suddenly noticed the fence I was trying to line up was blinking on and off magenta or pinkish purple. It was about the frequency of a no vacancy sign in an old hard boiled detective movie.

I switched the sun to midnight to see it better and looked around. It wasn't coming from anywhere - it was emanating from me! From my head I think. I checked my inventory for worn objects and there was nothing unusual. No particle dance FX accidentally switched on. After a long while it stopped.

Was I being scanned by an unknown craft with ION DRIVE, Captain? Was it a new subtler griefer attack intended to drive the victim slowly nuts rather than orbit? Was it just someone testing a script? I might have volunteered if asked.

Maybe I'm just grumpy 'cause I'm making no headway on a build I should have finished a month ago.

It stopped? Rats, I wanted to see it! :D

Some griefers do set out followers in sandboxes, which certainly could have particles coming from them. They wouldn't be able to follow you through a TP, and in most sandboxes they would eventually be auto-returned.

A few things you can do to help you locate the offending object (assuming it was a follower):

- turn on 'highlight transparent'
- turn on beacons for scripts, particles, sounds, and/or light sources
- if it might be inside you, hide your avatar using the client menu (rendering section)
- hide particles (if the particles themselves are hiding their emitter)

Have you been anywhere near a nuclear power plant - one owned by a certain Mr Burns maybe :p

I once noticed a ghastly geenish glow and it turned out to be my clothing...

Those glows are happening since 2 or 3 updates ago, they are to help you align. You will also get a yellowish glow and a blueish glow depending on the axel that's aligning.

hmm...

there are cross sections for alignment in yellow, cyan, and magenta, but you have to turn them on in the grid options. (and have 'use grid' checked.) also, they don't blink.
unless you were moving the fence back and forth, and unless the magenta grid cross section highlight was lighting up something in front of your camera. or on your head. also, it doesnt 'glow' as such -- that is, emit any light.

still, for mysterious magenta visions, this might be the best bet to investigate.

That's usually my skin on sunday morning after a long night out partying.

Sounds like it could have been a 'follow me' type object, except casting a glow? Many of the Linden sandboxes are bad about things like this happening...
