New Blogs & Email Notifications

I have basically ignored the new blogs and navigate on over to these forums. Once in awhile I'll see a topic thread that catches my eye and read a bit of it. Only once...ONCE...did I post to a thread.

The next morning I woke up and checked my email as is my custom. I had 72!!!!! new messages. Since I check my email many times a day, this was to say the least intriguing if not a bit alarming.

The vast majority of the new messages were email notifications of the ONE thread in which I posted PLUS notifications of other threads that I had never read or even heard of. Figuring it was some glitch, I just deleted them. However, all throughout the day, I kept getting inundated by these notifications.

I knew there had to be some way to turn that function off, as in these forums, so went searching in the Wiki. I found the info I needed here:

I followed all instructions, went to the one thread where I had posted and changed that to not receive notifications and then, due to this interesting little "feature" in the blogs,



I continued to the second step to turn off all email notifications for all blog posts permanently. (I'll say that little "feature" is "confusing." Absolutely stupid imo.)

Well, those steps worked...and didn't. For a day or so, I did not receive any more notifications. Whew! On about the third day after I made the changes, I began getting notifications AGAIN. There were fewer of them than previously, the the curious thing is that none of them were in the thread of the ONE post (have I said that enough?) I made, but threads that, once again, I'd never even seen.

I re-checked to make sure all the "turn email notifications" were properly configured, both in each notice I got as well as rechecking the "never receive email notification" boxes. Each time it showed everything was set to NOT receive these.

I kept receiving them. I wish I had NEVER posted in those *##$% blogs. I just submitted a ticket re: this issue.

While I await the answer, has anyone who has posted over there had this experience?

Needless to say, I am NOT amused.

Click on your name on the blogrum, click on edit preferences, you'll see something like this:

Email Notifications Preferences
Always subscribe via email to threads I create: Yes No
Always subscribe via email to threads I reply to: Yes No
Automatically watch documents I create: Yes No
Automatically watch documents I comment on: Yes No
Automatically watch blog posts I create: Yes No
Automatically watch blog posts I comment on: Yes No

Click no for everything, click on your name again, click email notifications and that will show you if you've left any on.

I've posted on the blogs.
I get email notifications for a thread from the time that I posted to it.
I've never had a notification from any thread that I had not posted to.
I've never had a notification for a thread that I read but did not post to.

I wouldn't be confident that any amount of setting fidling would fix your issue.
It sounds like pure borkage.
Raise a ticket I would say.

I did everything you said prior to posting, Ciaran, except the clicking on my name again. I'll redo that.

Yep, I've got a ticket in, Sling. I agree, it sounds like borkage to me too.

ETA: Ciaran, I had done what you said (on my first reading of your post), I *thought*. What I had done was follow the Wiki directions which were slightly different (ie. first clicking "My Stuff" -> Edit Preferences. Then I clicked "no" to all the choices....hit "Save" and thought that should take care of it.

Following your directions by beginning with clicking my name (everything was already clicked "no" then clicking my name again (not save), then clicking "email notifications" brought up three blogs (none of which I'd posted to) that were showing notification. Clicked them off so now hopefully that's the end of it.

The blogorums are haunted!!!!
