I'm a Pixie role playing that I'm a human playing a Pixie in Second Life. Even though I put my picture up in the 1st Life tab, everyone just thinks I'm being cute and all. Best way to get new ideas is to spin deosil quickly 12 times, jump up and clap your hands as many times before you hit the ground, fall back and watch the clouds for a minute for each time you clapped. When you are done, you are filled with ideas.. unless you fall on a ant hill, then it hurts

From: Jezabell Barbosa I was just curious. For those of you who RP, what inspired you to create your rp character. I had friends who were RPing kids in SL, and I decided to join then. The character is, basically, just me through a five-year-old filter, really. Mari

Ceera was initially created as a roleplay character for a freeform fantasy/sci-fi on-line community. She was to be a powerful Human magic user with aspirations to become worshipped as a Goddess. Her abilities are strongly influenced by Dungeons and Dragons roleplay, a little Harry Potter type magick, and both Western and Japanese myths and legends. By the time she came to Second Life, she had existed for many years in that other community, was indeed worshipped as a local deity there, and she literally split off a portion of her best aspects to come to this realm...

Thanks for this. Your reply was more what I was looking for. My rp alt has drow like skin, very large breasts, and lives on an island with a few others who share this drow like skin. I am just tossing about and searching for ideas to come up with some of her RP history.

I tend to do a LOT behind the scenes to create the history and personality for my RP characters. It's a more detailed process than I could type up in a few simple posts in a forum.

This is a timely question for me. I've been thinking of starting an alt to get into one of the Harry Potter RP sims, but the whatever I can think of seems trite and unoriginal.

RP Character

I tried to get into several of the RP sims here, but I could not get past the outsider/clique barrier that is so heavily prevelant. But for me, Astray has a bit of history. He was an exiled drow that had fled from his homeland and traveled far into the forbidden regions. There he found the portal to this realm, where he encountered a variety of new species, peoples, and cultures. One of the people that he met was a demon lord, who bestowed upon him some of his demonic powers and abilities. Thus, the preset version of Astray was born. I have yet to further that, as previously stated, I can't seem to wiggle my way thru the barrier. Have fun.

LOL there is nothing wrong with trite and unoriginal! If you like the idea and concept, then go for it...don't listen to others...your character you play what appeals to you. If I might suggest, get a couple of RP friends together for a couple of hours and do a little RP trying out ideas with your character and/or backstory. This improvisational RP works wonders in coming up with ideas for a character for flushing out a character.

I, like Mari, rp me in whatever context I am rping in... I do not have an elaborate story. When asked how I got there, I tell people that I am in the middle of a long journey with hazy beginnings. Maybe I lack imagination... but it makes it easier to remember things. .d

I started playing my character as a three year old, and have grown her on a real-world time scale since. Her character has been affected by her inworld experiences, and she reacts based on them -- she isn't afraid of dragons, for example, because members of her family have taken on dragon forms before. My roleplay Gabriele started off in a very simillar way to the way I started SL. Dumped into a different world, helpless at first with only the clothes she found herself wearing to her name. Slowly over time she learned to be less of a victim and more of a vigilante against evil until the Source of all Light abandoned her to the hordes of evil that she fought against. She was turned into what she has become today, one of the blood-sucking undead that she used to fight against. Though now she sees things differently, what once was black and white are now a myriad of shades of darkness. The abandonment of the Light forced her into to the soothing darkness where she now finds comfort. Is she evil? To some no doubt, yet it is not entirely certain how lost she has become... My character basically started with a quite a strong back story that I sat down and wrote which drew upon a home world of mostly peace, green forests, vast seas - a world of magic a little like an elven world though there were not elves there but people like humans. She was magical in nature, born of a magical bloodline and the 3rd and least of 3 sisters in line to assume magical and healing duties in a ruling household. From this life she was wrenched by the city that eventual stole her life also, she awoke in a dark, urban sprawl that was the City of Lost Angels. My influences were basically all the things I was interested in, other worlds, magic, the dark side of fantasy etc. I had decided as first she would be helpless in order to make her journey more interesting. She would not be a character who would eventually triumph but one who's life would end in woe and tragedy. As time went by in my roleplay and situations happened of course I would add bits to her story, flesh her out more but the first version of her back story was only a few paragraphs of text.

From: Dakota Tebaldi Unfortunately I really don't have any backstory. I'm just there. I was like that at first until I got immersed in my first roleplaying game, then eventually it kind of spilled over into the rest of SL and now I mix in and our according to my moods. When I am in rp though, I tend to play the same character and develop her. Besides just because you don't have one now, does not mean you cannot make one up at any time.

I am having a difficult time breaking out of my current rp and creating a new character. Was it something you read, watched on TV, dreamed about? My current rp is a mixture of Edie from desperate housewives, Vivian from pretty woman, and britney spears. Though not active in SL, I used to be in Guildwars, and will am in a forum roleplay. My characters usually start off with some point or opinion I have, be it the cycle of child abuse, the futility of alcoholism, the struggles of one adapting to a totally foreign society, etcetera. Then I start running them through scenarios leading up to, related to and resulting from the particular point I am trying to make until I am happy with the result and feel comfortable moving forward with that character. Typically I consider everything from their parents to their present and the character becomes a result of all the factors in between.
