For mainland sims it's almost always 40. Some special sims, like welcome areas, have higher limits. I think I was in one that had over 90 people in it once. (Was a FREAKING MADHOUSE.)
Island owners can set their own sim limits. Usually they leave it at 40 but sims with tons of campers boost it really high so they can get astronomical traffic figures. Trivia: If a place has a traffic rating of 100,000, that means that avatars spent a combined total of nearly 70 days worth of avatar time in the sim for the day that traffic was calculated. _____________________

mainland 40, island max 100 but can be set lower if wanted A couple of years ago, there was a sim stress test on the Beta Grid. We were able to pack in just over 100 avs in one sim. Performance was very bad. I couldn't get the statistics display to work, but were were easily getting about 1 frame every other second. _____________________

Thanx ![]() so my neighbour is blocking the sim with his campers ...Whaaaaaa neighbours!I know from experience that ARing this takes care of this nuisance ... eventually. May be a few days, may be some weeks, depending on how busy the good folks handling ARs are. |

Yes, that was the answer from LL just this week. If it happens again and again, AR them again and again, and one fine day in the near or far or very far future LL will do something about it. |

Go to the support portal and start a live chat, or a ticket on it. If you get a symphathetic Linden they'll restart the sim for you and kick everyone off

a related question - is there a limit on how many avatars can fit on a smaller mainland parcel - e.g. if I had a party on my 512 plot, could I theoretically cram up to 40 people in or would people get a "parcel is full" message way before this limit was reached?
(I am not saying I would do this - I like my neighbours) |

No, there is no limit to how many can be on a parcel.

There are a couple of music venues that have very cleverly built on the corners of two adjoining sims, effectively doubling the potential number of avatars.
