From: Shizuko Susanowa Sorry if this hav been asked before... But is there a way to hide your groups from prople who view your profile directly? and from those that search for you? Open up the group you wish to look at - look at information. Look at the bottom. There will be two check boxes. One will turn off group notices, the other will hide the group on your profile.

You will need to click on each group you are in and on the first screen at the bottom there is an option to show groups in your profile. This option is always checked so all you need to do is uncheck it and save.

Yes. If you bring up the group information window there is a check box to hide the group from showing to others.

Go to your Groups list and select the group you want to hide. Click the info button on the right.
In the lower right there is a checkbox to show group in profile. Turn it off and apply the change.

The groups will always show in your own profile for you. But will be hidden to others.
ETA: The group will also show to other members of that group too.

As a side note, I believe a hidden group will still show in your profile to other members of that group.

From: Tex Nasworthy As a side note, I believe a hidden group will still show in your profile to other members of that group. You will still show up in the group if group information is pulled up if someone is a member of that group, but the group itself will not show up in the profile. Even to someone in the group. I know from personal experience.

I tested that with a couple of my alts and the group always showed in the profile for other members. Maybe something has changed in the meantime.

Maybe something has changed in the meantime. It might be viewer specific, or it might have been changed recently. I believe it was at least a week or two since I looked at the situation. It might even be group specific. There are certain group settings that can be set by the group owner (and or people given such power) to hide group members in the group. I am uncertain if that would also work with profiles.

The "hide this group in my profile" function got broken a while back. I've never been sure that it got fixed, or will stay fixed. I don't trust it. If there are any groups I'm ashamed to be seen as a member of, I either don't join them, or send an alt to do the dirty work.

It's not about shame, Lindal, Some people join groups that may have personal meaning to them, and they don't care to show those to the public at large. Not everyone cares to be an open book here. Also some of us don't believe an alt should be necessary just to get a bit of privacy. I just don't understand the "need to know everything about everybody right off" mindset that runs in SL.

Actually I have friend who is co-owner of group I own and she has the group hidden on her profile. I can't see the group in her profile even though I am the owner but I can see her in the member list when I to members tab in the group. The same happens with my alts and we are in the same group.

As a side note, if the group itself is not shown in search it only shows to other members of that same group anyway. So in that case, no need to hide it.
