This is another question about our avatar shapes - more serious this time. I often come on and think that I am "chubbier" than I was when I logged off. In fact, my partner complimented me on my rounder curves last night - and I hadn't touched my "curves"! He is older than me and has a thing about curves. Have other people noticed a "shape-shift" at times - is it just a part of sl that we can't avoid? Maybe it is a sim or prim thing? I keep a notebook in real with my measurements and confirm it occasionally but the changes seem only just minute enough to be noticeable. By the way, I should add I wear my own designed shape - not a purchased one.

Hi Jig, it's amazing how you may be the only one to notice your chubby side go from chubby to slim in seconds. WTG! Seriously tho, check if you have changed clothes, sometimes they can change your shape for a few seconds as things rez.

Thanks! I'll do that - actually I know I did. Anyway, we must always be vigilant of our weight - I actually insisted my partner drop out of a chocolate of the month club if he was gonna partner me here. Hmmm - "thinks" - he SAYS he did but how can I be sure?

The avatar elongation bug still exists... It's not as harsh on biggies, but, down here it's a nightmare. (>_<

Apart from the occasional ruthing incident, I can't say I've ever seen my shape change. Despite the usual SL hiccups, my shape has remained stable! Another thing I've never seen in any of my builds is prim-drift. Things have always remained where I put them. Up to now, that is - everything will probably go crazy tomorrow!

(>_< It has a name? lol and I thought it was just too many late nights staring at this screen I've noticed over a long time that my torso keeps getting longer by tiny amounts though the number doesn't change, and I keep having to reduce it. At the same time my leg length keeps getting shorter and I have to keep setting it longer. Possibly the same thing? Sad part is... as tall as my AV is, it's technically possible that I could run out of slider one day.

Wow, I thought it was my imagination. I'm glad this thread came up. Thanks especially for the links, Imnotgoing.
I see 1620 all the time. I create a new shape, look at it the next day, and the proportions are all off. I think to myself "I must have picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue when I made that", and then I adjust it. I had no idea it was really a bug. I don't know if I feel better or worse now.
Dana, I too have been creeping up on the leg length slider on various shapes. Now I have to wonder if those legs look a mile long to other people. Yuck.

The only time I have seen my shape change as you describe Jig, is when I altered the graphics resolution. Do you use more than one PC, possibly with slightly different graphics settings?

I've seen myself get distressingly skinny and hair appear or get shorter when it shouldn't. The first time, I thought someone was trying to fix my "lil' fat girl" shape. Nope, it was a bad render or something. I logged out and logged in and the problem cleared up. It panicked me no end the first time I saw it. I still remember. This problem makes little fat avatars taller and thinner. It's amazing how attatched you get to that inworld shape.

It's nice when you bring up a point that everyone can "connect" with. Now I shall tell my partner that his "tum" is purely accidental and NOT snarfing back on Chockies in the real world. But I am going to be vigilant about this "drift".

Yup....I've definitely noticed this glitch. I make shapes and I've noticed a few times when I try a shape that's been sitting in inventory for a while....I'll use it as a base for another shape and when I wear it.....it looks totally different. Well, ok, maybe not totally, but I see things like the eyes are way too big....it's chubbier than I remember......stuff that like you said, is minute, but very obvious to me because I created the shapes. (and I have all my past add photos to verify what the original designs looked like!)
I always assumed it was an SL rendering glitch and adjusted the shapes accordingly. Over all, I don't notice it as often on the shape I'm using on a day to day basis.....more often with stuff that's been in inventory. But there have been a handful of times over the past year that I have logged in and immediately noticed my shape looked different.
I had posted a couple times (and submitted a support ticket) about my male shapes being borked along one side of the face. This is really bizarre and only happens with male shapes......and is always on the lower jaw line. When I checked the mesh view....it was indeed a warping of the otherwise symetrical mesh. There's no way for me to fix it......and so far LL hasn't come up with a solution either so all I can really do is hope that it will go away with my next re-log. *shrug* It seems to be a fickle issue....I wont see it for months, then suddenly there it is! And, it's every viewer I've used.
So, in lue of that little weird anomoly....I'd say shape shifting is probably just as likely and common. It may be too, that a lot of folks don't really notice it. It's obvious to me because I have a 24" moniter.....so I get a good view .... but when I did log into SL from my fiance's laptop.....I can honestly say a LOT was lost in detail with the smaller screen...and subsequently, smaller avatars.

I had this trouble last year, but I found that breaking up the chocolate and allowing myself only one piece at night, trying to eat more salads and bicycling regularly improved things.
Oh, wait, you mean your SECOND life avatar....nm!

Mmmmmmmmmm, chocolate!!!!

The monkey shape bug has existed since v1.2 came out in 2004.
It is a shame it still exist and that I still have to tell people to relog on occasion to fix it.

That would mean my waist is at my armpits as well I read through all those Jira's, but it seems most (if not all) of them are more immediately noticible bugs.. like the skinny body, long neck, cue ball head thingy. Granted I read them fast, but I didn't see anything really referring to a slow shape drift in a particular direction. I'm just not ready yet to have my SL ass drop like Grandma's did

I'm just not ready yet to have my SL ass drop like Grandma's did The thing with avatar elongation is that most of the 'full sized' avatars are often already set close to the end result of the stretching glitch, so it's much more subtle as you set yourself taller. Most people won't look at themselves enough to catch it until one day it's, "ohmigawd, when did my butt get that big?". Then they go to adjust it, it snaps back into place, and the perception is that it took a while to end up like that. (=_=) Now, get in to a reeeealy little avatar and the stretch becomes SO obvious that it's unavoidably deforming. Prim skirts fall to the point of exposing underwear. Knees bend to a "monkey" pose because the hip elevation hasn't shifted. Any other prim attachments sink into the body leaving just a mess of mangled mesh. It's a nightmare! (>_<
