Are the SL issues this week normal?

I'm new to SL, just signed up last week and went premium quarterly. Things were ok, client crashed now and then but nothing drastic. Now this week its been 503 hell, logins rarely ever work from the client during east coast evenings, items won't delete when building, crashes that reset you to places you were 2 hours before the crash, map doesn't work etc.... What's going on? Is this the way its been all along? I really like what SL can be when its working but wow, i left Vanguard because of bugs, but this is just bug hell over here.

This does nothing to give faith in open source environments and the people that admin them at all.

Actually all the problems started once you went Premium.

But seriously, the website has never been this messed up, but inworld issues like you are experiencing come and go. Which is why so many paying customers come and go. Be patient. It will improve. For a time.

I was wondering who caused all these problems. Thanks a lot, Trolane!!! :P

SL sometimes gets like this but I wouldn't say that what we've seen in the last week or so is 'normal'. In general, I think it continues to get better but, sometimes, it kinda falls on its face for a bit.

Others, people who have been here for years and will never leave, will tell you this is the beginning of the end and that SL will be gone soon. They all say that every few months..

This week for me has the been the worst it's been in quite a while.

When I first rezzed, IIRC, things were a bit messed-up too, and LL were trying to get things stable. Took them a while, but things calmed down.

In my experience you're always going to get these "bad weeks".

Welcome to SL! :-)

Hi, Trolane. Welcome to SL and to the forums. I've been on SL for almost a year, and can say, too, that these issues come and go. However, this past week has been pretty unusual in the amount of problems. It seems as though LL is having asset server issues again, but I think it works better than it used to.

Also, I need to point out that I'm running SL on a 5-year old Dell Dimension 8250 with 512 mbs of RAM and an ATI 9500/9700 Radeon (or something like that), so I chalk a lot of the lag, slow rezzing, etc, up to my PC. I'm actually amazed, to be honest, that I don't have more problems and can overall run SL pretty well.

You will find that when the concurrency of avatars in world is high, the problems are higher. SL on a Sunday afternoon (I'm in the eastern US time zone) can be difficult, but by Sunday night (my time), I find I can finish whatever I couldn't do earlier in that day.

Welcome Trolane!

When it gets like this you'll hear us bitch like it's this way all the time but it's not. The last time I can remember it being nearly this bad was a brief period last summer. It has it's up and down moments where we all scream how much we hate it but you'll notice we're all still around.

Don't lose faith, Brother.

All the other games I've played like this had equal problems if not worse.

Must admit I have beenon sl for over a year and this is one of my worse weeks ever. And now I dont receive my im's to email when I'm offline. Reset scripts and everything to what is effected, some work and some dont until I get online. Causing a lot of problems for people to contact me when I'm offline. And important info not reaching me.

This is my worse week too.
I bought land and paid 35000 l$ but the land was not transfered to me due to a server issue, fortunately the owner was online and sold me the land for 0L$
I sold part of my group land to buy a bigger plot but the land is still in my group land window and I can't use tier.
I am now trying to sell another plot but it doesn't appear in the land search.

Hope next week will be better

It is so bad here that I literally would not have tried Second Life if not for CBS.com -> advertisement there lead me to a 3rd party website where I registered and downloaded the OnRez viewer. I didn't have any problems until I actually visited this website here. Stupid bloody website errors. And all those threads about newcomers flooding the place right now? They can't all be coming in through third party websites, right? So how are they getting in? The website is too messed up right now for me to have entered by way of Second Life.com.

((and stupid bloody in world problems - actually tried building last night - stupid move on my part. I might just head elsewhere if these problems continue this weekend))

Oh, 503, how I know thee and loathe thee.

This is truly one of the worst times I've seen recently. Note I did say one of the worst.. because the worst times was the world of gray, when literally everything was gray in SL or there'd be griefer attacks the likes of which make the Marios, Puddin' pops, Spartans, and whatever seem positively cuddly by comparison. It'd hit the single continent and crash a large portion of the sims under a self-replicator.

Nah, this is just annoying, is all.

Fayruz...if you can hang in there for a little while longer, this too shall pass.

Admittedly, I've only been here a year and a half, but I've seen SL go through some very good times, as well as some pretty bad ones.

The one constant is: it will change. Yes, LL is re-starting and rolling back the grid quite a bit this week...and these 503 errors are a bit of a drag - but they'll be fixed, and things will go well for a while, and then a new round of errors and problems will show up.

and so on
and so on
and so on...

When trying to log in using the RC viewer, after hitting connect it gave me the grid status page in the viewer. I closed it (the viewer) and logged in. I've never had the viewer show me a web page before. Any one else have this happen?

Yes, Vanessa! Considering that instead of weening us from the website, we're pretty much being shoved right back to it.. I've seen this at least 3 times in the last month.

More often than not, I get a blank screen or... a 503 (no not really, but it just sounded dramatic)

I quess I'm lucky then, they let me know that the grid is open instead of giving me a 503! I have got 503's before though not a web page.
