Is there any place that sells a large library of *tile-able* textures? I've been so many places and found just photos of random things and things that look tilable but then when I try they just look like crap and aren't at all. Is there any like 'builders texture store' that sells just tilable, quality textures, and a lot of them?
I would put this in products wanted if it was more specific... but it isn't. If I thought it could be provided by one person or just bought I would put it there but as I'm looking for a kind of store I figured this was the better forum.

Most of the major texture stores, like TRU, will sell these.

It's not that hard to create tilable textures from things that aren't: From photo to seamless texture http://www.gfxartist.com/features/tutorials/740Creating Seamless Tiles http://www.atpm.com/13.09/photoshop.shtmlEtc...

For free textures, check out this site: http://www.grsites.com/textures/It's aimed at web graphics, so obviously a lot isn't suitable for SL, but I've still found several wood and rock textures that work well. And of course you have to upload the textures you want into SL. What I really like about this site: - It shows you the texture tiled, so you can quickly see seams or noticeable repeating patterns. - It has built in features to adjust or change the color, and does resizing, rotation, and more. Yes, you could do this in Photoshop, but on the site it is fast and easy, and you can see the tiled results immediately. *** NOTE: I just noticed that the adjustment features aren't working properly now. They were fine for years, and I used it within the last month or so, so hopefully this is just a temp situation. However, the original textures are still available for download, it's just the customization stuff that isn't working.

and thank you for those, wonderful tuts ^_^ My main problem with ones I can buy though is that far too often they are very specific things that can't just be made tilable like that =/

You might try...

Okiphia, You might take a look at Harbinger's Haven sandbox which has thousands of free textures organised into categories. The vendors allow you to view any texture in it's tiled form and many of them are seamless. They allow you to take a single texture or all textures in a category in one go which come to your inventory in folders. Well worth a look ~B

'Depoz' sells many seamless textures. I have a few sets from there I use.
Excellent tutorials Kitty, I have those floating around in my bookmarks somewhere.

Yes, I do sell quite a few tilable textures for builders and am uploading more all the time. Right now I have around 850 boxes of textures displayed so that you can see everything that comes in the box on one sign. Most boxes contain at least 8-10 textures so this saves a lot of time.
I have two stores, Lauren's Tiling Textures in Lotus which is more spread out and Lauren's Tiling Textures Express in Ranunculus. I also have everything on Slexchange.

And Lauren's textures are the best there are as well At least I hardly use any other. Buying textures can be a bit expensive at first, but your builds look so much better then with freebies everyone uses. Of course I make own textures as well, but when you want to buy some, lfox is definately worth a try! Greetings Marcel

Just my 2 cents:
If you plan on doing a lot of modeling, now or in the future--learn how to create your own, custom seamless textures...you'll thank yourself everyday.
Your products will reflect this discipline if you do. Nothing is worse than a good modeler that lays a bunch of 'found' textures on an object...to the trained eye, it's a sore thumb, trust me.
And since you'll have to learn how to lay 'decals' anyway (textures that add detail, text, or images), it's good to add custom texture creation to your Bat-belt too.

Lauren's textures are top-notch, as are the ones from Textures R Us. Learning to make your own? Here's my two of my favorite sites for "build em yourself" textures: http://www.mayang.com/textures/index.htmhttp://www.imageafter.com/Need a free seamless texture generator?: http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=46368This thread probably belongs in the Texturing Tips forum tho.

From: Yumi Murakami And if (like me) you really can't draw, you can always "cheat" with Texture Maker or Genetica.. I don't consider manipulating textures in Photoshop to be 'drawing.' You don't need any artistic vision to create seamless textures. The step by step tutorials (listed around this thread) are pretty easy to follow. It will take some time to master, and there are little tricks not listed which you'll fashion on your own...but fear not Photoshop, and the industry standards. If you can find a program that makes seamless textures from a raw image...and it works well, by all means use it. But the sooner you get your hands dirty with GIMP or Photoshop...the better. And like listed many times on forums (and right above) www.mayang.com is a fabulous resource for raw, unbridled texture goodness. It's a fabulous place to start collecting 'categorical' textures for your own collection. Also, don't be afraid to break out your digital camera and snap your own textures--when you find yourself doing this more often than 'finding' textures...you're becoming a true Jedi. I want to state a tip for budding texture makers...if you feel like that brick wall is just too generic, and lacks a dynamic feel...try layering another texture on top of it--a 'grundge' or 'dirt' map as I like to call it. It will make your raw texture more unique and characteristic. Here's how: lay your diffuse texture, the one you want to be most predominant--let's say this texture is a concrete wall. But since we feel this concrete wall lacks interest, we are going to add a dirt map to it and liven it up. Find another texture which looks like it may 'overlay' your original texture well. Now, place this layer on top of the original. Now, fiddle with the opacity of the dirt map until it registers as dominant or subtly as you want it. You can also mess with masking certain areas and only laying the dirt map over your chosen bits if you wish. Anyway..this is a great way to refresh an otherwise boring or ordinary texture.
