Question about media in SL

I have never owned nor used any type of visual media player in SL. I have only watched them with friends.

I'd like to get one for my club.
My question is.......are any of them made so anyone can watch them, but not
"just anyone" can put in the content?

I'd really like to control what's being shown.
I'm thinking of mostly using it for maybe youtube clips or other short length things.

Thank you in advance

Oh sure. Most of them, in fact, are controlled by a notecard with a list of streams that can be selected, so the owner can modify that notecard. Many also have a notecard specifying who can choose the streams from the list ("change channels";) and possibly chat a different stream than any on the notecard (kind of the "VJ" role, I suppose). I don't have any specific product recommendations, but the scripting for this stuff is all quite simple.

(It gets moderately more tricky when different people should be able to see different streams on the same parcel at the same time, and usually impossible when those streams are supposed to be time-synchronized for all viewers.)

well, the thing is, I will have to deed it to the land group.
which, is just the club staff and good friends, so, I'm not worried about them....
but........if it's not JUST me owning it, can others get into the notecard???

Ah, yeah, that's kind of complicated.

If you want others in the group to be able to modify the notecard, you'll need to change the properties of the notecard itself to "Share with group." What I'm not sure about is whether you'd also have to change the object containing the notecard to also be shared with group--I'm afraid the answer might be yes, and that's pretty ugly because objects shared with group can be (accidentally or not) taken by other group members, deleted, etc.

If you don't want others to be able to change that notecard, you'd still do the sharing bit in order to be able to edit it yourself, then unshare it. (Or you could either Take the device and re-rez it owned by you or sell it back to yourself as original, then edit the notecard, and finally re-deed it to group.)

Everyone can watch. Most televisions, only the owner can change the channel. Some youtube viewers will let anyone request that a youtube video be played, and will play it.

If you buy a TV, get one that is modifyable, because you will want to put in your own texture on the screen. I choose stills from old movies, and it looks better than the default thing which is usually the creator's logo.

Would you like a landmark to a place that sells TVs and youtube viewers? I don't have a personal interest in the place, but I have that LM and maybe other ones, after searching around a lot for basically what you are looking for.

Yes Please, I would like an LM.
I have been tearing my hair out looking at these things. I got one of those free viewers to try out and yeh, anyone could search for URLs and play them. Not good..
I was hoping for one with a drop down menu that anyone can access the video choices....just not enter any of their own choice.
