Since I can't find anywhere to buy a premium membership for a friend, what alternate ways are there? The only thing i have come up with so far is having them create a paypal account and make payments in there. Any other ideas? that don't violate ToS/ToU.

I'd go with the Visa Gift card myself. Used to be one could buy a 'gift certificate' for a Second Life premium membership, but they did away with that a looong time ago.
Which is kind of stupid, frankly. Now, they might actually stand a chance at making money off of it....

I think the PayPal account sounds like a great idea. If they don't have one already, they'll find it useful for many things, especially buying and selling on eBay.
