I see a 512 plot of Mature for $2200L with no bids..
I see a 512 plot of Mature for $4510L with 12 bids..

Perhaps a quick TP would answer this, but I am unable to login at the moment (running on a guest wifi at a tradeshow) But I do see such a difference in plots being bid on.. And I'm trying to be patient and do enough research before buying some dirt for myself as I'd like to get in the right place at the right time..

I'm sure it also depends on what I want to do with the land? I love where I am renting my shops, and I also like where my apartment is.. but someday, just as in RL, there comes a time where I stop paying my landlord's salary and I start investing in my own SL future.

Now if only there were some sort of way that tiers were tax deductable, just as property taxes and interest are in RL.. lol

The difference is probably due to location, shape and type of land. Some plots are almost impossible to build on.

..and auctions are not always the best or cheapest way to get land.

Yeah, it's very strange. I actually picked up a bargain recently, but more often than not, the auctioned parcels go for way more than they're worth. I guess neighbors in a bidding war, often.

I suspect that the no-bid parcel is just too ugly to motivate anyone to make that first bid yet. But that doesn't mean it won't eventually get bid up too high anyway. Judging by a number of the bid histories, it seems like some folks wait till the last hour or so before the auction closes, and then bid like crazy.

On the other hand, I've been popping in on auction parcels lately, and there really are 512s out there that aren't worth L$2200. There are some sims that have been so ravaged by adfarms that there's literally nothing there but BIABs and prim dumping grounds as far as the eye can see, so there's just nobody left in the sim to want the land or the extra prims it would support.

I think there are a lot of people that don't know there is another way to purchase land.

Auction prices are almost always higher for comparable land you can find inworld by sorting by price per meter.

Well now I am trying inworld search, and the lowest 512 plots are 3584.. (7L/m2)

Seems like I'll keep renting a while.. Can't beat 100/wk for 100prims in a penthouse, can't beat my 250 prim beach house for 315/wk either.. but then once I add up all 6 shops that I rent, I'm forking out alot to other landlords! lol

that is a false inflated bot price. i have stood on the same plot for 2.5 hours and watched it change hands about 8 times, one guys bot accually bought it agian after somebody had bought it from him and raised the price 300L$

It might be inflated, but it's not false. That's as cheap as you can get Mainland right now and the prices are going up.

The good news is, the second page of search has some nice flat green parcels available in a nice sim.

Don't forget, the one-time purchase price won't kill you. The monthly tier will.

Maybe that's what boggles my mind.. There was a thread about what we would do if we met a Linden in RL.. the guy said he would buy them dinner...

I think they could buy me dinner, and dessert, and pay for my taxi.. the amount of $$$ spent on texture uploads, classifieds, and tier fees.. how many server warehouses and employees does LL have to maintain? I mean wow!

sorry, rant off... just trying to find my own piece of dirt to keep up my hobbies :)

Auctions are scary things, you can get a great peice of land that no one has shown interest in one day, and the next day watch bidding go crazy on a peice of land no one in their right mind would want.

I just boought a triangular peice of land that has huge frontage on a road through the Auction and got pretty lucky with the price (luckily I was able to build because a custom building was all thet was going to work there)

I also watched an adjoining lot to one of mine get get bit past 4 times the going price, and was only resold the next week...

Be careful, and do TP to any land you might want to bid on first!
