No teleport button in search?

A friend of mine just signed up with sl. Went through initial training. When he conducts a search, the gray results window that shows the picture of the place and the description has no teleport button in it.

What could be the problem?

Just for clarification, what is he searching on?

He was actually at a different location than me at the time he was trying to use sl. He was at his home and i was at my own home. However, I imagine he was using the standard interface. Because I was on phone with him walking him through how to tp.

Step by step we went over -

click the search button,

type in search at top (and have all selected) -

conduct search,

single click on a location that came up in search,

then click teleport button

But he had no teleport button...

Had he left orientation island? I don't know what you get if you try search from there as I didn't find it until I left.

He said he could not leave orientation island. He went through the course, but he said he'd been walking around for hours trying to find his way out. So that is when he called me and asked me to walk him through tp process.

And when he had no tp button, i went ahead and tp'd to some place.. gold bar i think, and i sent him a tp request. He got it and he did tp to gold bar and met me there. However, even from there, he had no tp button...

Is he saying the teleport button is grayed out? Or that he doesn't see any button at all?

If he doesn't see it at all, one possibility is that the search window is too large for his screen, and the part with the teleport button isn't showing.

Tell him to open up his Preferences and go to the Graphics tab. There is a slider called UI Size. He should slide that to the left. This will make all elements of the user interface smaller, and windows that used to go off the screen will now fit easily, letting the user see all available buttons.

Let us know if that works, or if not, if your friend can provide more information about what he is or is not seeing.

One thing is you have to type in the sim name and click search EACH time you want the teleport button to allow you to click. After you do this, you can alter your precise coordinates in the sim, but from what I have found, its only allowable AFTER you click SEARCH.

X, it sounds like you are talking about searching on the Map, but I think the OP is talking about the Search window.

yeah, i was speaking of the search window, not the map. I will tell him this stuff and see if maybe he just isn't seeing it because it is the wrong window size.

I can't remember now, but was there a teleport training course at orientation island? If there is, maybe he missed that part.

I went through the same problem when I was new.
For those who are new and struggling with this you can also click off the chat tab if its open by just clicking chat then go into view turn off tool bars then its easier to see when you're in search.
There was never any information about TPing when I was in orientation island.
In fact its pretty much same as it was when I first was here in Beta in March 2003

Oh FD, you might want to create an alt to go through Orientation Island now. LL has updated the one that new accounts go through, and it is TOTALLY different from the old one. (For some reason, all the public OI's that existing accounts can visit are still the old version, so a new alt is necessary to see the new one.)

I don't think there was anything specifically about teleporting, but it does have a special HUD that you wear while you go through various learning stations. Once you get all four required stations done (getting a big star for each one), you are given a button to teleport to the mainland.

I think while you are there, you can't use the map to see and teleport to the mainland (I *think*), but I know other people can you send you landmarks while you are there. With a landmark, you can teleport off the island without completing the learning station tasks.

hmm I create alt bit back and I couldn't contact any my friends or even my main while I was there in orientation island or save anything I build I was there about 5 months ago last time.
Its good they changed something.
In beta in 2003 they had the talking parrot, the tutorial on clothing which at time I had really hard time figuring out how to dress, and how to move prims and how to see behind a object.
When I return last year it was the same and when I created the alt it was same.

My alt and main has same email. They didn't seem to have problem with that.
Though I wish I could retrieve my orginal account but I don't remember password, they didn't like the information I put in. They said he still around he just not on search or anything.
Then I found out I have to pay 25 dollars or something to reactivate him but not sure if that is true.

It was still the old version when I started in January, but had changed to the new version when I created my first alt in either February or March.

Someone told me there is still a talking parrot in the new Orientation Island (OI), but I don't remember it. Some of the more obvious differences are the city streets where you learn to drive vehicles, and a castle you can walk through.

For my most recent alt, I just had my main (me, Ava) find the alt in Search, then drop a landmark to my home on the alt's profile. As soon as I logged in as the alt (at OI), I received the landmark and was able to teleport out immediately.

In order to see the NEW Orientation Island, you must create a new account.

Any existing accounts that have already been to the mainland can not see the new OI. If they search for OI on the map, they will only see the public OI's, which are still the old OI version.

mm... Rigel gets the distinct feeling that he will have to go over to friends house and have a look at the pc and see personally what is happening.


I went through orientation only a couple weeks ago.. and never had any problem with tp at all. He must have missed something or have something wrong somewhere... Rigel will see...

You might also ask him to send you a screen capture.

I'm dying to know what the problem really is... please do come back and tell us when you've figured it out.

It does get confusing sometimes!
