Another Noob Question--Where to go?

So, I'm in SL right now, I can't figure out where to go to meet people. When I say I'm a noob I mean I just signed up yesterday so I'm kinda lost. Any suggestions on some good hangout spots? Thanks!

Well, crap. By the time I saw this you were off line.

The Forum Cartel Hangout had a few people there most of the night.

NCI and The Shelter are both good, newbie-friendly places and both usually have people around. I'm not much into hanging out lately, so most of the places I used to go are probably gone.

There are not always people there, but Madhu's Cafe (search 'madhu's' in Places, or Madhu Maruti in People) has a really friendly group, when there are folks around.

Also, as suggested (I think) in your other thread, check out the Forum Cartel Hangout, or join the Forum Cartel group inworld. (Careful, though - there is another group called just the Forum which is also made up of very friendly people, but ones who are into BDSM. Great if it's what you're looking for, but perhaps a bit much if you're new and not looking for it!)

This a question a lot of us older residents still haven't answered. But don't let that discourage you. I can go a time being sort of bored and not sure what to do, then something will fire me up and get me excited again.

Another suggestion is to join a few active groups that are into whatever you are into. How do you tell if a group is active? I'm not sure. I belong to a science fiction group for instance and never hear a peep out of them, but some of the more obscure groups I'm in have a lot of activities and active IM chat. You just never know.

Try dance clubs and infohubs - there are lots of ppl hanging around.

I usually just open up the map and go where green dots are...that doesn't always work out so well though. Teehee.

Try the Cartel. I never get the time to go there but they are friendly and a little weird.

I also do the green dot thing and have had many adventures with men I meet like that.

Does that wheelchair need servicing again, Grandad?

How do I get to the Cartel? Do I just search it or is there some sort of landmark somewhere that I missed? I will try the green dot thing. I usually pick up on things pretty quickly but last night I spent the majority of my time trying to figure out how to change my outfit. I still can't figure out how to get a new "face."

In the back room of the Hangout there is a free hud you can wear that (1) tells you who is currently at the Hangout and (2) gives you a teleport there.

I tend to go even when no one's there and sort inventory or open boxes for a bit, so I can be the someone-at-the-Hangout and hopefully others come.

Also, if you join the Forum Cartel group (I think Chris sent you an invite) you can open the group chat and ask if anyone's doing something and wouldn't mind company.

Careful of the hud though, it usually tp's me to some gaming joint with big scary hairy guys leering at me as I drop into the middle of their crowd. Someone told me it was a LM/SLurl glitch. I usually just use a LM or tp to the sim, Allana, and fly over.

Yes, that's true. I have ended up under the hangout and once on a country/western dance floor.

BUT

If that happens you will see a red beacon and an arrow on your mini-map, and you can fly toward that.

Try the Blarney Stone pub in virtual Dublin - that's usually busy and most of the people are friendly.

Hmmm. Who made that HUD again? Could be that it's working just like the designer intended.

Last night I pulled up the Showcase tab - - it's on your Search function....and I hit up about a dozen places. It was a great tour. Saw the Eiffel Tower, Mont St. Michel, Brighton Beach, New Orleans....a pretty forest, a spooky forest....a jazz club, a swing club, a disco.....some race tracks....a couple of Pubs....and some bizarre places thrown in....bumped into plenty of people who were exploring and doing the same thing, and we swapped favorite Landmarks.

Don't wait for people to talk to you.....IM them and ask if they want to take the tour with you.....loads of fun!

Gosh I haven't been to the Forum hangout in ages. But yes that's a wonderful place to start. And I sure anyone of us would be happy to give you ideas about groups based on your interests.
