I am thinking of buying a new computer, and the one I am looking at does not have specifically a graphics card that is listed for Vista OS's.

It comes with an NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE. Is this adequate to play SL and have some decent graphics?

POS card. I would not suggest buying.

With Nvidia cards, the second number is the more important one...the higher, the better. 6150 would be very low end.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

But it will run better than my laptop which has an Intel Graphics chipset?

If so, I wouldn't mind getting it. It will DEFINITELY be better than the dinosaur I have on my desk at home(700Mhz, <512MB memory, etc).

yes, SL tends to be very unhappy with Intel graphics.

But instead of the NVIDIA 6150, try to find an 8800. That will run SL *really* well.

that the next Macbook (not pro, regular low end) will have a good GPU. Look for it late next week.

I have a NV 6150 on my HP laptop that the screen is now broken with no warranty but it works off another attached old monitor...I digress.
Get a better one. I never really needed the power until SL.
Get all the power you can afford!

6150 is a dinosaur, it might run SL for 6 months. Get something with at least an 7600 or a 8800 if you want to still be using it for SL in 2 years time, also avoid the 8400 and 8600 series there were reports of a bad batch of chips in them.
8800's are the current gaming industry standard for graphics intensive games.

I got SL "working" on an Athlon Mobile 3200+ 1.8 Ghz, with 512 MB ram 32MB video card (Geforce 420 GO) and XP Pro service pack 2.

It did run actually, but slow and laggy. I suppose such requirements are minimal :P

8800 series are good, just not the best anymore.

Try upgrading to 9800 GT series or the 280 GTX series. GX2 series from the 9 series works fine, but mind the power supply.
