Well, now that I have learned a 25 second delay from what I hear on my computer until the residents hear it on SL is normal, I was wondering how DJ's make use of voice when working.
I suppose that I could take a minute in between a song block to announce what is coming up and jabber away, and then jump into the text chat while the music is playing. But it's not easy to be relevant and reply to what people type in the moment.
So how do other SL DJ's make use of talking, with the inherent delay?

I would wonder why voice chat is on at an event where I am DJing? If I am there to DJ, I am the only person who gets to talk. Max

It is near impossible to respond in a timely manner to the text chat and open SL Voice chat through your broadcast. Many Djs will text a response to the clients and follow-up with a response on air. You can also use SL voice to respond - but as it is set up now - you cannot be sure the person you are speaking to can hear you.

I hadn't even thought about SL voice because a lot of people listen with speakers and then its just a big mess with voice and feedback. Any talking I was thinking of doing was through SAM Broadcaster. I was more interested to know what DJ's talk about. Is it during songs, after each song, after a block of songs. What is talked about? What is happening at the club or just announcing songs?

I talk after a block of songs. Generally just welcome people to the club, mention how to give me requests, and dedications. Point out where the club tip jar is if there is one and people want to donate to the venue. Otherwise I shut up and play lol. I use text chat for general chatting and such as people don't want to hear me droning on over the music

why not hit some places and listen to DJs and see what they talk about, or listen to some RL radio DJ's and see what they do when they talk.

Can you explain? Is there a 25 second delay before you hear "ouch"?

Yes usually a DJ will announce what has been played, what has been play, remind patrons to tip the host, or the club, enter the contest, vote in the contests, play sploders, poppers, welcome a block of patrons.
A DJ will VERY RARELY ask the patrons to tip them, this is best done by the host, but when the host does not pull their wait a DJ does what they have to do, including the host job if need be.
