Best game development in SL?

Heh... I never thought I'd be asking this question. I've never been a gamer, and as we know, SL is not a game and its whole strength is its creative freedom. There are no objectives and avatars are not required to proceed sequentially through a series of events, being disallowed from proceeding if they skip a step, etc.

However... what if there IS a particular situation or build within SL where one does want to do this? I know there are folks out there doing game development and I assume they have scripts that control behavior to some extent within the build. But since as mentioned I'm not a gamer, I don't know who or where they are. I'd like to do something like this in an educational context, and although I have a lot of ideas for scripts and such that would accomplish this, I'd love to see existing builds and what has been done, maybe not have to re-invent the wheel.

Any suggestions of places to visit?

If it's still around, there used to be a Linden sponsored sim called "Arcadia" where the winners of an annual SL game creation competition were kept on display.

You have entire sims devoted to games, mostly RP:

Samurai Island
Tokugawa
Dark City
City of Lost Angels

All this uses different gun system, samurai island is the home C:SI swords.
In Darck City you have the DCS2 System and in City Of Lost Angles the CSS.

Medhue Animations- Located on Tanglewood City has several Sports animations and events for "gamers". Like Soccer and a new Boxing animation.

It has a complete Soccer Field and Boxing Arena

.."as we all know sl is not a game."

We do? SL like all other on-line and console disc's and tapes are all considered games. They're featured and announced in all gaming magazines as well as found in gaming forums all over the internet. They're found in gaming shops and in the gaming dept in big stores.

SL is a bit different in that you can buy money and use it to also make it. But in the end and other then the money feature it's just another on-line game.

SL is not considered a game at the lowest level because enabling development, and maintaining the content market, are higher design priorities than ensuring everyone enjoys themselves. (The idea is that the content market should take care of that, because things that people enjoy will sell best within it.)

Well I got a nice boxing gym/arena using scripted gloves wich are pushing. KOs happens when someone lands out of the ring... its kind of fun. We have tournaments every Fridays. and people sparring everyday. If you want to see just search Averlast here or inworld. It's the top results. ^^

It's not considered a good game due to sad physics and shopping world optimisations, but games certainly are possible and hopefully they will continue to improve to drive the economy too.

If you are into adventure and puzzle solving, then try the Numbskulla Pothealer's Adventure.

If you want to get into something new and maybe design a RPG with controlled camera movements, more akin to a traditional PC game, contact Flix Saiman - he has exactly this kind of thing in development now.

A unique custom scripted version, built to scale, with standard rules (and free to play). Come to Castillia Home and see what SL physics can be made to do.
