Hi all, I have a hot tub with water sounds, but since the most recent version upgrade I've been unable to remove the sounds, even when the tub is fully deleted. I've tried using View/Beacon etc., but of course nothing shows up, as there's no apparent source for the sounds. Does anyone know how I can get rid of them? Thanks in anticipation

if the tub is deleted and the sound is still there, it's simple, you have either accidently put the sounds into a nearby prim that has nothing to do with the tub at all or you have deleted everything, but a very small or invisible prim that is remaining behind.

Yes, sounds like one of these is the case. Often, water isn't linked to the tub, so deleting the link set for the tub wouldn;t get rid of it. Try clicking on View>Highlight transparent (ctrl+alt+t) to make the water prim easier to find. **edit, sorry, I see now you said you tried beacons, maybe you tried this too?

You have to find the prim with the water sound in it and delete it or the sound.
I can sympathize, I hate most tub's water sounds far too loud and distracting.

Thanks Dekka and Nimue, I tried both Beacons and Highlight Transparent - curiously though, no beacons show up even in relation to other scripted objects, no matter what I select (Sound Sources, Scripted Objects, etc). I previously deleted and replaced this tub several times when I was building it, so I don't understand why it's suddenly a problem.
Suezanne, the location is Coronal 238, 149, 39 - you're more than welcome to take a look if you would like. Meanwhile, I'll keep on searching to see whether I've accidentally put a sound script in something silly!

Well, if you are looking for a prim with the sound and/or the sound script in it, that could be the problem. Like particles, even after you delete the script and the sound from the inventory, the sound will keep playing. I just double checked, and I have an empty prim sitting here with nothing in it playing a lovely windchime sound.
If that is the case you will either have to delete the prim, or, if you have a sound script with menu control, I've had some luck using that to override the "phantom" sound (because that script toggled sound on and off) and then once the sound was off deleting the script.

Even the version I have of the scrubber won't kill the sound, nor resetting scripts in the object, bc/ there is no script. I've had some luck camming around and listening for the sound to get louder when I got closer to the offending prim.

So, the gold "cap" prim atop the Aura Windchimes Avalon" hanging from the corner of the pagoda contains "Zena's Water Fountain Sound 2" and a script "Windchime Water Sounds"... subjectively, that also seems to be where the sounds are coming from. Hope this helps.

From: Nimue Jewell Like particles, even after you delete the script and the sound from the inventory, the sound will keep playing. Yes, this is because sound, like rotation or hovertext, is a property of the prim. So, once you enable it, you must explicitly stop sound in that prim before it goes away, even if you delete the script that started it. And, of course, your local PC will buffer that sound, so that even when you stop it, it may continue for a little while. The LSL command you need to issue is: llStopSound(); This command is in most scrubber scripts. Of course, deleting the prim works too!

Well, I know we're not supposed to mention names in the forum, and while I doubt that could apply when I want to pay someone a compliment, I'll err on the side of correctness. I received an IM inworld from a Classy lady with the surname of a famous American general who visited my place and took a look - the sound had nothing to do with the hot tub, but was contained within a wind chime! The chimes have a menu of sounds, but 'water' doesn't automatically turn itself off when another sound is selected; rather, the chimes have to be reset. A very public 'thank you', Classy, and to all of you who offered advice. (Thanks to Nika, I've also discovered the Free Script Library, which will no doubt provide me with many more opportunities to screw up )

I was contacted inworld by a Classy lady with the surname of a famous American general who visited my place to take a look. She located the problem - the sound was actually coming from a set of wind chimes, not from the hot tub. The chimes have a menu of sounds, but 'water' doesn't turn itself off when another sound is selected, and the chimes have to be reset. So, a very public 'thank you', Classy, and to everyone for the many helpful suggestions. (Oh, and thanks to Nika, I've also discovered the Free Script Library, which I'm sure will provide me with many more opportunities to screw up! )

"no naming names" does not apply to compliments.

but you can't say "I think ***** **** is the BEST bullshitter in SL" it's the wrong kind of compliment, isn't it?
