Okay, I've been in SL long enough now to get real curious about using an alt, and decided to make this my next step in the SL adventure. Trouble is, about the second time came in world with the alt, there was griefing going on at a welcome center (I had not yet set a Home), my av froze, then wandered off and froze underwater, and has been stuck ever since. Tried a second alt, and it was even worse! I've managed to exchange friendship with my real av, could not manage to give the alts any landmarks to try to TP to.
In a word, I'm in a funk, and am probably missing something simple here. Is there a quick way to overcome this locked up, lagged up situation, so that I can get my poor alt some new clothes?!

Have you tried using a slur address to start your SL?

Try writing carmine/103/105/135 in your 'start location' on the start screen instead of home, then, log in. (It's just a random store... hope you're not naked).

WHat happens when you try to "teleport home"?
Doing so should take you back to the entry TP point at the newbie area, by default.

Thx Brann. It's the newbie area where I'm stuck each time, the only home I've ever known. lol. I've asked my husband to try to TP me out, but his invitation doesn't get through. I can see a handful of other avs, and have picked up snatches of conversation, but none of that lasts. Most peculiar--I've turned off just about everything but the monitor to try to cut the demand on the system.
But I will try again tonight!
I appreciate the suggestions and will try the SLURL one--don't think I have tried it yet. Have asked my husband to offer TP, but the offer did not get through. He offered to come and rescue me, but I did not want him to get stuck in quicksand, too!
I will also try the suggested random start location (thx, Isabeau).

detach ALL attachments. including HUDs. then have your main TP you.
there is a "newbie on orientation island" (for lack of a better term) attachment onto every newbie. it prevents you from leaving until you finish your orientation.
edit> or have your main send you a LM. it's been a while since i created an alt and i don't remember if you can be TPed. tho i think you can.
