I seem to have trouble locating a direct quicktime link to a song so that I can use its url for my parcel, so that it will have music. Are there any websites where you can simply upload a song and then it will give you a quicktime link for it so that you can use it? Thank you.

I'm gonna oversimply my answer here so hopefully it makes sense regardless of what your technical knowledge is....

In order to play music on your parcel, it must be hosted somewhere in a Shoutcast-compatiable format. Your options are to either host it yourself (hard), or utilize one of the many Shoutcast streams already out there (moderately easy).

To locate Shoutcast streams playable on your SL parcel, go here: http://www.shoutcast.com

Once you find one you like, play it in Winamp (or the media player of your choice) - then select File // Stream Info (or some variation), to get the stream URL. Then, all you have to do is paste the URL in the AUDIO Streaming section of the 'About Land' window for your parcel.

Good Luck! :)

Not unless you have it hosted somewhere, as Travis said.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

You can play any single mp3 file that is hosted on a Web Server. You don't need a streaming audio setup to just play a single mp3. Just upload the file somewhere and put the URL in your land's media settings.

Don't know off hand of any sites that will host mp3 files for free, tho.

just upload your mp3 to a webserver and set the link in your media url to http://www.yourwebpage.com/your.mp3

ive been thinking of making a mp3 that just say 'buy this land' over and over in a nice voice to play on land i have for sale to try to get ppl to want to buy it more....subliminal advertising? :)

I wish I could make a playlist somewhere and have it play on my land. I am sure I am not capable of hosting in myself. I am a techy dumbass.

While unfortunately the SL client cannot process playlists which you could use to stream your own mp3 files from the web, you can enter the URL for your mp3 directly so it is played on your land, as others have said. There's also a workaround to making your own playlist, as it were: Just make yourself a gadget that changes your music URL after each song. What you need is a notecard containing the URLs for all the songs you want to have in the playlist, along with their play times, and a script that reads out that information and changes the URL on a timer. That's what I'm doing on my land. There's also a ready-made product for sale out there that does the same thing, made by Foolish Frost, called the Rave Media Kit. It doesn't seem to be on the market anymore, but I'm sure you can still get it by IMing Foolish.

ok i found www.mailboxdrive.com/terms.php which gives you like 6 different codes, but i just looked through them and embedded in one of the codes i saw the direct mp3 link to the song so it works (even though its quite a bit of hassle)
