Hippo-Rent Question :

I know, I know, I could ask Hippo-Tech about this, but I'm hoping this way might be quicker :)

I've set-up some rental boxes, and they're accepting payment without any problems. However, when it comes to the tenant trying to rez some prims - they're not allowed to.

Now, I'm assuming that these rent boxes actually control the right of the renter to rez prims on my land, and to delete their prims when their rental expires - but they're not doing either!

Obviously, I can't set my land permissions to allow 'all' residents to build, because there would be nothing to stop people coming into the mall and building whatever they like - without paying the box. What am I doing wrong here, please?

I followed the instructions without a problem (they're very clear), so?

Any help appreciated.

You need to set your land to group, have renters enter the group. Then set land to allow group build.

These boxes do not control the right to rez.

This is purely your failure to invite these people to group or change the land settings to allow anyone to build on the land.

You must invite your tenants into the group, and there is no automated way to do that without the use of a bot. LSL does not allow objects to send group invitations.

I was hoping that wasn't the solution. I can't see much point in the rental boxes if I've still got to be around to invite people to a group. I was hoping these things would solve all that. Still, I suppose they save work by reminding tenants of days remaining etc...

Thankyou both.

Rental boxes are a nice way to stay organized - they send out notices at timed intervals and keep time that your tenants can easily access. HippoTech also keeps a log of payments. That said, they are not a necessity to rent. All rental is is an agreement between you and whoever else about the use of the land/apartment/house. That's it. A lot of people think they need one of the box systems to be a landlord, but they don't. But the boxes are extremely useful as the business grows. I can't imagine being like d'Alliez and having 70+ islands without using it.

Hippo boxes don't control your land but they do make management easier, especially with the web interface.

If you decide to set your land or deed your land to group, be sure you turn off autoreturn first. Make sure you have a knowledgeable friend review everything before you act or you may regret it after your building disappears.
