I knew this once, but for some reason I've managed to have a brain fart regarding it. How do you set up the stuff in the properties window to allow you to run two SL clients at once? Most embarrassing... >< Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hmm. I think it was -multiple. Just cannot remember where to place it. Someone gave me this information not more then a few months back. Wish people replied on these forums a lot more often. ><

-multiple works here, at least. But so did only -multi, but it felt as if SL itself had a brainfart when I did it, because the next time it did not work, then it worked again.

Not on my regular pc, so i'm a little vague, but it is -multiple
it goes in the top line of the shortcut properties.

Hiya
Set up a shortcut to SL. I usually drop it onto my desktop.
Right click and select Properties.
In the Target field you'll see: "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe"
add -multiple at the end so it reads: "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -multiple
I also get '-set SystemLanguage en-us' in that Target window. I overwrite that with '-multiple' and it's not caused any probs.

Word of caution: You'll need at least 2 GB of RAM for multiple SL clients to run and not look like stop-motion, unless you crank the graphics settings and draw distances way down.

I am running only 1GB of RAM on a 3 year old computer and have ran 3 clients at once with no lag at all. Using normal graphics settings even or at least the ones SL set when I first ran the program.

Same age and RAM as Chris so hoping it'll work ok tonight. Just lately though I've been really semi-freezing at times on the one client so I guess it takes a heavy toll on your ISP and connection. Fingers crossed

I find they usually hit when I pan the camera too fast or in too wide of a sweep.

On a Mac, first you duplicate the SL app. Then you right click on it (option-click with a one-button mouse), and select "Show Package Contents". In the window that opens, you need to open the Contents folder, and inside that, open the "Resources" folder.
In the Resources folder is a file named "arguments.txt". Open it and add the following line (It may be an empty file at first):
-multiple
Then save the file and launch copies of that modified app. Each copy can run a concurrent session.
I usually add more to my arguments.txt file:
-multiple -purge -noprobe -port 13000 -login Ceera Murakami xxxxxxx
Where "Ceera Murakami" is the account name and "xxxxxxx" is the password. With a -login line, you don't need to enter the account name or password. Omit the password from that line, and you'll need to type the password, but still don't have to type the account name.
Purge clears the cache each time you log in. Noprobe and port 13000 were recommended by someone else, and make it easier to work with a router that has a firewall.
When you use a SL app set up this last way, with the avatar name specified, I name each copy "SL-" and the name of that avatar, or their initials.
