I don't know if this is the proper place for this, but here goes:
I learned to make a screen to view a YouTube vid in SL and how to do it from Torley's nice help video.... all of that is good, but....
Problem one - After i close my SL session the link is no longer good. The media thingie wants to streat the same URL as a text stream and it will not play. I have to go through the process to recover the MP4 URL again and reload it to make the vid replay.
Problem two - while I can view the video that is playing others at my house cannot. I have tried with three different people and none can see or hear the stream.
What am I doing wrong here?

well I answered one of my questions by myself... for some reason the MP4 link address for the same video changes... I don't know why it does this but the MP4 link for the same Within Temptation video changed from earlier this morning to now.... curious.

Dolores, I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I am having the same problem, and it is to do with the way the vid is encoded by YouTube. If it won't play in Quick Time it won't play on your parcel.
According to thispagehttp://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/04/download-youtube-videos-as-mp4-f, YouTube have recently changed their code.
To be honest, I am so tired right now (2.00 am) that I can't make head nor tail of it. LOL I do hope someone can help though.

sometime around summer YouTube changed their video retrieval to include a requesting pc ID as part of the url, that is the only one that can view the video.
there are some other sites that can stream via proxy youtube videos, but the one that i use seems to no longer work. I'd guess Youtube pulled that method off the table.
Someone in the scripting forum might have a working site you can use.

tsk tsk tsk youtube is for youtube only and all of you "greasemonkey youtube download" users would have to update it every time youtube changes things around.

So does that mean all those expensive YouTube TVs on XStreet are so much useless junk? If that is the case I'm glad I stuck with my homemade 1-prim viewer. Back to the drawing board.

From: Kira Welty Someone in the scripting forum might have a working site you can use. Sadly, they've asked the same question - without any reply. It seems as if to play YouTube vids in SL will now involve copyright infringement. I'm removing my media player.
