Alright so I'm sort of having a problem customizing my avatar, I was wanting to make a non-human one, but can't seem to figure out how to go about doing this. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance ![]() Hi Kalask and welcome to the forum ![]() It would help if you could let us know what you mean by 'non-human' - there are all sorts of alternatives, each of which have their own ways of achieving the end result Inc _____________________

Try visiting Northstar or Furnation malls if you are interested in furry avatars.
Grendels is likely my first suggestion, however, as they will have all manner of non human avatars. Enjoy! _____________________

I will send you a landmark to a place where they have a lot of free non human avatars. It's an infohub. Look for the NCI building (it's small.)
If you want me to go with you, IM me in world but no one ever takes me up on these offers I make here. Hmmmm. Lol |

Another place you could try for non-human avatars (everything from a spider to a universe in motion) is Yeti Bing and Yoa Ogee. They have quite a few freebies, if you wander around the store.

You can also browse Xstreetsl. A search for +avatar +robot brings up this:
This is uncensored, because I always include mature content when I search on XStreetsl. You can click here without fear, it's no ugly stuff on the front page here. You can always remove mature content in your own search. Then you can click on one of the subcathegories to the left, or sort by prize or date to the right. It is easy to register if you want to shop, or you can use it only as a "catalogue" and TP to the shop. There are some that only sell on XStreetsl and has no inworld shop, but most has a link to their shop in the ad. |

I can think of five ways of creating a non-human avatar, which are used in separately or in combination, depending on how different from a human form one wants to appear.
* Changing the shape sliders in extreme ways. * Adding a non-human skin layer. * Adding prim attachments (hooves, horns, ears, entire limbs). * Deforming the shape with animations. * Hiding the shape entirely (several methods) and replacing it with prim attachments. At this point it is traditional for me to recommend "Grendel's Children" to the OP, for their huge variety of relatively inexpensive non-human avs. So I will. _____________________

Here's a few free furry avatars you won't find in the usual free full perm avatar collections:
Uchi Desmoulins is giving away the white version of his cat avatar. Teleport to the sim "Curious" and look in the big circular platform in the center. It's just to the west of the vendors. Samara Nerd's last available avatar is a white easter bunny, available in the top floor of teh GNUbie store in Powder Mill. Check Wingless Emoto's picks for the location of his free avatar collection. There are several avatars in his collection that aren't in the full perm ones. The reindeer are particularly well done. You can get a free brown tiny bunny at the Loco Pocos main store at the Loco Pocos sim. If you're less than 30 days old there's a free tiny rabbit at the Caledon Oxbridge infohub. _____________________

Wow a lot of post in such short time 0_0 Sorry for not specifying which I meant, I did mean a furry when I said nonhuman. Thanks for all the advice everyone, I will check out all this free stuff you all mentioned, as I can't really buy any Lindens currenty. Also I can't really play that much because I have a huge work schedule ahead of me, but when I do get on if anyone would like to help me/show me around ingame (Because I can't even seem to get out of Avatar Island XD) That would be great! Thx again everyone
![]() P.S. I'm not sure if I really taste that good Hearttau ![]() P.S.S. Marianne those avatars on that link u sent are awesome, too bad I can't afford any ![]() |

I can't even seem to get out of Avatar Island XD http://slurl.com/secondlife/Caledon%20Oxbridge/98/178/27/ - it should open up another smaller window. At the bottom of the window are two buttons: Teleport, and Show on Map. Click the Teleport button and you'll be taken to Caledon Oxbridge, which is one of the excellent (and griefer-free) resident-created tutorial areas. If you follow the red arrows on the ground, you'll be led through some very detailed tutorials about SL that will set you up nicely, and toward the end you'll find a set of free avatars (including Tinies and furries). In the same sim, if you explore at the end of the orientation area, there is an NCI location with a large freebie wall containing (among many things) other furry avatars. _____________________

P.S.S. Marianne those avatars on that link u sent are awesome, too bad I can't afford any ![]() If you can't be much in SL, XStreetsl is a nice place to browse through. You can do this in lunchbreaks at work, if it's not filtered. (What else should I do when the others go out for a smoke? Stand there and freeze and watch them smoke? LOL)I searched +avatar +robot, but you can search +avatar +furry and narrow it down. And then sort by prize, low to high. I am sure you hit some free ones. This saves you a lot of time. I see you got a link to some free avtars inworld too. Good luck! |

I totally blanked on what I was supposed to send to who, so am going in now to send the LM. Lol |

Is the cardboard box robot avatar still available in the Library? I'll have to check when I'm in-world next.
Kalask, the LL Library folder in your inventory has some (mostly human, I think) avatars that are free for you to use. I think most of them are the same ones that you can choose from when you first register, but you can try on various shapes, skins, clothes, etc and mix and match. When you wear something from the Library, a copy will appear in the regular folders of your inventory. Also, a tip if you are trying on different avatars or are not totally committed to a particular one: put a copy of your current shape, skin, eyes, hairbase, hair, any HUDs or attachments you wear all the time, and possibly a set of clothes into a folder labeled something like *Kalask. (The asterisk will help it rise to the top.) Then you can wear new avatars without fear of losing 'you'. _____________________
