In another thread that degenerated into a wrangle about facelights, it was noted that custom Windlight settings are fixed...they don't follow the normal SL day/night cycle. I've started using custom settings, and I really miss that.
Here's my question: If you brave the Day Cycle editor's mysteries and develop a set of custom settings for a whole day, and then save it...will it cycle through the day following the estate clock, but using your settings?

Hi Lindal~!!! Yes...... If you brave the day/night cycle editer (which I did after some tweeking and to my delight I discovered it becomes your default once you save it!) Anyway....the short answer is yes.....the day/night cycle follows estate time.....you can 'test' your settings by running a full cycle in what ever time frame you choose.....but once you have a series you like, and you save and load it......that's it. Your custom day/night cycle will run as YOUR DEFAULT from then on. It's a very handy little tool once you master it......and tho it only permits us to save one full cycle at a time.....you CAN change it and re-save/reload it as many times as you want. One thing I did notice is it's pretty touchy......one thing I need to go back and do with mine is eliminate some of the settings I used that are too harshly contrasting because it can be a bit of a shock when the sky suddenly changes from a balmy blue mid day setting to sudden sunset! LOL I think, after living with it a while....it's probably best to take one really cool setting.....then adjust that one setting by saving it in a few different sun and lightness/darknesses......and then using that in the day/night cycle so the flow of settings will be smoother. Anyway.....let me know if you'd like some help....windlight is my favorite thing to play with in SL. LOL

Thanks, Milla, I will...or is there a tutorial on this somewhere?
When I played with it, I had the darndest time figuring out how the keyframes worked. I still don't think I do.

Oh wow. I forgot about that windlight atmospheric editor stuff. Can we exchange settings yet? The most i have ever done is turn on the Ghost setting.

Oh bleh...it should manifest itself as a setting in our inventory that we can send to one another and then right-click to activate it or something - digging around in sub-folders is so bleh.

This is the intended implementation. However, this is also LL we are talking about. Sharing xml files is just a workaround till they finish windlight. Yes thats right, windlight is not finished yet, I said it There is still a good handful of intended features that are half done.

Right now the only way to share the xml files in SL is by pasting the contents into a notecard to pass around, or in a forum post. A few people that have websites have made them downloadable, but you still have to then go manually put the file into your SL directories - pain in the ass, really.

I've got ... like a zillion pre-sets I've created that I'd be more then happy to put in a zip file and email to anyone interested..... I have no idea how to post them to a web site.....or I would put them in my flickr account to share *shrug*. It is a bummer that we can't do this yet via in-world exchange......but......I'm sure that will change in the future.
