Someone told me the following today: From: someone I learned that it was possible to receive a bonus prims on a SIM open space when it has a sea surface. I take this to mean that if the sim is terraformed such so that all the Linden land is below water you get a prim bonus. Now... I'm quite sure this is hokum, but I'm curious whether this is some kind of misinterpretation of some other feature I'm not familiar with, or some other rumor. Any idea what she might be talking about? Also... it's false, yeah? I mean I've had openspaces sunk to 0m before and I don't remember getting a prim bonus for it...

There was talk a couple of weeks ago of a bug that seemed to give opensapces more prims, I'm not talking about someone talking BS and using the prim bonus to fleece people, there was an issue but I'm sure someone said it has been fixed.
Hopefully the person who mentioned it will come along.

From: Ciaran Laval Hopefully the person who mentioned it will come along. Andrew briefly mentioned this a while ago. /me digs around in the wiki then points to http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Andrew_Linden/Office_Hours/2008_06_12 at 17:09. From what he said, it seemed like it wasn't really an openspace thing - anybody using the bonus stuff could go over the limit.

From: Josie Hyun I understand how to buy land on the mainland but why can't i buy a peace of land underwater to build a home or a underwater city. thanks What you need to understand is that most of the "water" beyond the edges of most land areas is only an illusion. There is no simulator to run those areas. It's just a visual projection of the sea surface for any areas that don't have an actual sim. This is preferable to having your 'reality' stop abruptly at the edge of the sim. You can't enter any area on the map that doesn't have a name associated with it. To buy land in a water sim, look for water areas on the map that have names, like a land sim does. Many of these will be low-prim "OpenSpaces" sims, designed primarily just for navigable boating betwen or near private sims and mainland coastlines. An OpenSpaces sim may be adequate for a personal residential build, but would not be appropriate for a full underwater city. But some water sims, such as in the Nautulus 'continent', are full-prim mainland sims that are designed to be mostly water. Look on the map, and check out various areas. Do a search of the forums for "openspaces" for more info on the difference between full-prim and OpenSpaces sims.
