Is this a bot? Or What?

I am not so new anymore, but am unable to get into SL very often, so I haven't had the chance to become aware of most things going on in world.

So, hoping that I haven't asked a silly question, can someone please tell me if what I am about to mention is a bot or something else and is it something to worry about?

I have a building that I am eventually going to turn into a shop. It is locked to everyone apart from four people I have given permission to enter to. The building tells me whenever anyone tries to get into it.

I always get their names and I think it is just people wanting to have a little look inside. Anyway, yesterday I received a message that another "person" tried to get inside. I know we should not mention avatars names here in the forum, but I really don't think this is a resident simply because of the very long name, and the fact it is so unlike the SL naming pattern and because I did a search and it didn't show up, so I am naming it here to see if anyone else has come across this please.

I was informed by my building that Helicopter Bell 206B3 rescue V4.3.2 tried to enter my building. That is the name exactly as reported to me, and as you will see, not a standard SL surname, although I know that people can give all sorts of things for their first name. But also, in SL our names consist of a first name and surname, not five different parts with the spaces between.

So, is this a bot? I thought bots had the same names like us, a first and last name. If not a bot, and not an avatar what is it? Should I be worried that it is trying to get into my building?

As I said before, I hope this isn't a silly question, but this name seemed so odd compared to usual SL names so I would be pleased if someone could let me know if I really shouldn't worry about it at all.

Thank you

Hmm weird one, sounds like someone crashed a chopper into your building and got tagged with it's name somehow.

I don't know how your security system/locks work, but my guess is that it has simply picked up the name of a vehicle somebody tried to ride into your building (or over your parcel).

And yes, bots are normal accounts, just controlled by a different client, so they follow all the normal rules for accounts and avatars, naming included.

sounds like someone tried to fly a helicopter through your front door. llKey2Name works on both avatars and objects.

Yes. Your system picked up the name of a vehicle that had collided with the house.

I had a build into which someone had driven a very large speedboat and abandoned ship / crashed.
The thing had become embedded in the build, doing its best to continue on its journey.
I couldn't return it because its centre was in an adjoining parcel that did not have autoreturn on at the time.
I had to move some prims so as to allow the thing get far enough into my parcel for me to return it. In the process it collided with one of the visitor logs I was playing with.
Then, like you, I had a strange avatar name in that visitor list.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I think it must have been a helicopter crashing into my building :-(

But, then again, it looks like I don't have to worry too much about it.

Thanks all.

Of course your security is all an illusion....

Anyone who wanted to wander around inside could do it easily enough without you ever knowing.

disable camerra constraints. BTW a bus left in the air at my place but over another property was deleted by me after right clicking and selecting "Drive".

It did not allow me to drive but it did engage its physics so that it drifted onto property where I could delete it , might want to try that when needed... worked well for me :-).

If you disable camera constraings... it can't go all the way through walls can it... hmm... something they might wanna fix over at LL, yo?

lol Sorry for laughing but I find the helli crashing into your building kind of funny. Lucky RL physics aren't in SL otherwise you'd have to rebuild it or there'd be a fire or something

Man, that's aodd name but yeah.

Yes, you can move your camera into any building exactly this way. Also, you can sit on a prim and move through walls as well. LL won't fix it. It is a "feature".
And No, I was not the pilot of that errant helicopter.

The camera can go through walls whether the constraints have been disabled or not. The only difference between having constraints turned on or off is how far the camera can move from the avatar. That's it.

There's absolutely no way to stop the camera from moving "through" a wall or any other object. The camera is a client-side item, which has no physical shape, no ability to collide with anything, no effect on the world whatsoever. By its very nature, it must move with complete freedom. It couldn't be otherwise. (If by some magic it could, it would destroy 3D modeling in SL. Creating 3D objects well depends on absolute freedom of view.)

There's no such thing as privacy in SL. If you don't want anyone to see what you've built, keep it locally on your own computer, nowhere else. The instant you put it on the grid, everyone can see it. The only exception would be if you put it on a private island, and you disallowed public access to the entire island. Any other way, nothing is private, ever.

Anyway, simply moving the camera inside a building doesn't mean an avatar has actually entered. I'm sure thousands of people have probably cam'ed through your place without your knowledge. Your detector isn't going to tell you where somebody a hundred meters away happens to be looking, anymore than a RL motion detector in your house could tell if the guy across the street is looking in your window with binoculars.

Even physical avatar entry isn't so simple to block. You can't just lock a door, and expect people won't get in. Anybody can just cam inside, click to sit on the floor, and they're in. Or they could sit on a prim outside, move the prim inside, and get through that way.

If you really want to keep people from setting foot in your place, either turn off access to the land parcel, or invest in a scripted security system to push people away if they get too close. Just be careful with the latter not to make it abusive. People have every right to be on your neighbors' property, right up to your borders. If someone crosses over onto your land, then a gentle push back, and a written warning to let them know what just happened, are all you need. If someone's a proven griefer, then set the thing to teleport them home if they get within a hundred meters of your place, sure. But for the general public, keep it reasonable or else you're the one who's griefing, whether intentionally or not.

Just remember, though, as we've discussed, blocking an avatar won't prevent anyone's camera from coming in. Don't have any false expectations of privacy in such a public space as SL. It just doesn't work that way. If you want privacy, unplug your Internet connection.

It's not very hard at all to crash a helicopter in SL. I've done it several times myself without trying at all. :)

I would like to state for the record that my copter is not a Bell 206B3. So I'm innocent, this time at least.

I don't believe camming in and sit on any object works anymore, unless you can find a poseball or furniture with a pose script inside, then you can sit on those.

It does seem like it's harder to find sittable objects these days. Some places have very poorly-set landing points that leave you underwater or stuck inside a wall, and it can be infuriating looking for something that will let you sit on it to escape. If there's not a vehicle or posed furniture around you're often up a creek.

It's still possible to sit on an object that does not have a sit target defined... but significantly more difficult to do so. I've found either it needs to be a single small prim (like a simple box prim) OR you need to be standing very very close to it, cam in directly on where you'd like to sit, and then give it a try that way. But even then, it doesn't work every time. Also, if many people are already sitting on the object, you might be out of luck.
