Is anyone else sick of the events listings?
With the exception of classes, club events, treasure hunts, sports etc, the rest is a mismash of yard sales which are not yard sales in the true meaning, ie many of them don't sell the original of an item, shops advertising, house and/or land rentals, ad infinitum.
It needs either a Linden or a mod type resident to week out all the garbage.
What do you think?

I'd have to agree, and hey, you can always apply for the position (there's a post in the resmod forum)....
only one problem. assuming someone culls the obvious misfits, all it takes is creativity (or outright lying) about what you're doing.
example: hi, my store is having a sale on gumball machines = bad post
hi, my store is thowing grand opening party, come check out the gumball machines = questionable
Hi, were throwing an event at <insert region name/coordinates> with lost of neat stuff to do = same advert obfuscated

Yeah at some point I had the idea to make musical camping chair, everybody unsits and one would poof after each song just to see if that would make popular events Events were sponsored by Lindens in the past, now they just look at educational events I believe.

The Event Posting Rules are quite specific: "An event is defined as a special group activity that is led by a host on land owned either by the host or by a group the host belongs to. Examples include discussions, group meetings, hosted dances, classes, tours, and competitions.
An event is framed by a beginning and an end time. Thus '24hr Sales' are not events.
The 'Commercial' category was created for the purpose of grand openings, demonstrations, product launches etc. Each of these types of events should have a clear beginning and end time attached. Otherwise, they belong in the Second Life Classifieds, not the Events calendar. Posting events that are simply advertisements will not be acceptable."
And, from the very beginning: "Advertisements for commercial products or services will be deleted from the events calendar. Repeated misuse of the event posting system for this purpose may lead to disciplinary action against the poster's account."
Frankly, start abuse reporting those who spam the event listing, so we can return it to something useful. If people started getting 3-day bans for it, it would quickly become non-viable to use it for that sort of spam.

What do you think? Totally agree, many of us have volunteered to weed out the crap (non events, multiple postings, back to back 24 hour listings etc) but all to no avail sadly. Broccoli

Broccoli Actually, it seems LL has added a big red warning to the events posting page: "SPAM (multiple events posted in a single day that do not comply with the rules above) WILL NOT BE TOLERATED and will be SUBJECT TO DISCIPLINARY ACTION. Please do not use the Events calendar in any way which would inhibit its usefulness to the community at large. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in a SUSPENSION OF YOUR ACCOUNT." I don't think we need a moderator for the events listing, just a few well-placed applications of that threat/promise to get the message through. Remember, LL only investigates if somebody actually complain; they don't actively patrol.

got to love the Live music listings like this one:
tonight is adam & eve night
only 1 rule.....private parts must be covered
$200 is the minimum prize in our guest contest
dancers/escorts
no live music, and a radio on the stream is NOT live music

I´m confused are we talking the events discussion forum, special attractions forum, the events listings on the website, or the inworld search?? I don´t have many problems with the inworld search for live music events on the whole, as for the others............

What do you think? Hahaha. I gave up on events years ago. The one time I actually went to one that looked interesting the host didn't even show. Sometimes, though, there are some interesting discussions or fun things going on that are unusual so keep looking or maybe think of something fun and make one yourself!

Remember, LL only investigates if somebody actually complain; they don't actively patrol. But there isn't any way for us to 'report bad listings' from the events calendar. I think that might be a good start so those of us who do care can go through and alert Linden Lab so they can take action to those who are prolific spammers of the list. Broccoli

Just AR it as "other" with a screenshot of the listing. Given how LL emphasizes it and warns disciplinary action, it clearly falls within AR jurisdiction as general disruptive behavior. If LL gets tired of getting reports that way, they'll provide a better tool

I think I'll hold an 'educational' event at my store! It will be titled, "How to purchase things in Second Life" and it will walk you through how to buy my stuff.

If you don't like the events that are posted, then why don't you rent a parcel of land and host an event worth going to?
I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with.
I was late for the event I hosted this morning because my computer is having technical issues.

Mara, I am not complaining about people holding legitimate events, more those who post about rental/purchase of land, or come to my shop etc. One advertised free or 1L skins. My newbie friend went and bought some and one had the name of the creator printed on the butt lol.
Sally, we are talking about events under Search in world.

From: Alexa Susanto Sally, we are talking about events under Search in world. Right, in that case I guess I'm lucky or something. I'll add that I only ever search for live music under events and so far my only gripe has been the TP point being set halfway across the sim in a shopping mall. I just follow the green dots
