I've been experiencing bad chat lag lately. And for the first time ever, chat lag. Now my system can run SL just fine. But everything is extremely slow to rez, environment and people. And just now I had a bit of a chat lag where some IMs came in after the original. I have people always telling me I'm gray.
What can I do to fix this? My upload is around 500 kb/s. Download is about 7.8 MBPS. Using a C2D and Vista 32 bit, 3 gigs of RAM.

I've been experiencing more chat lag than I ever have before in the last day or so too. Not just in IM's, but local chat as well. May be pure coincidence though.

/me thinks they broke SL. Lately, I've noticed that my home sim will be running happily then totally stop for a minute, then continue on. Lots of chat lost, misordered and much delayed.
If you're seeing this, open the stats bar and watch your bandwidth and the sim timing numbers. When the problem happens, your bandwidth will drop waaaay down and the sim time numbers will stop updating.

For the last couple of days I've seen terrible delays in local chat (4-5 seconds). IM's seem to be OK for the most part, I don't know why.

I have recently (last week or so) noticed a correlation between "sim pauses" and avatars entering and/or leaving the sim.
It's like the sim stops sending packets while it's doing math to figure out how many scripts the avatar has on, or something.. like we all continue gfloating off in every direction we were moving, chat stops, etc.. and then it connects/disconnects the avatar and bam, everything snaps back to normal.. and the avatar appears or vanishes from the map. It's not every avatar though... so I find myself wondering if there's a gadget people are wearing, or maybe they're all connecting through a certain colocation facility,, but it's an interesting (and a little annoying) situation.

From: Winter Ventura I have recently (last week or so) noticed a correlation between "sim pauses" and avatars entering and/or leaving the sim. I've noticed that too. Seems like there was a JIRA that talked about some of that a few weeks ago, but I don't remember which one now. :/ It was at the same time as people were talking about the "ghosted script" bug getting out of control I believe.

People entering a region has been a source of lag for a long time. The more stuff the person has on, the more stuff the sim has to deserialize, the worse it gets.
Having the sim actually freeze up is new though. It's always been just a sim fps drop in the past, AFAIK..

I can't make any rhyme of reason out of it.
My home will rez painfully slow and have no chat lag at all. This place I hang out a lot will rez very fast and chat lag like crazy.
I've considered prayer.

I've been seeing local chat lag too, where I've never seen it before. I rarely have any issues with chat lag......and the last few days......lag has been terrible everywhere I go.....and chat lag is almost constant. Last night I stopped into a Blues club that I'd been to before with no hitch.....and none of the animations were showing for me....I couldn't dance using their huddles....or my own duo dancer......and NOONE appeared to be moving either. Another girl did tell me she saw me dancing just fine......so I don't know wtf was up. But it's rare that I ever have such extreme problems. On the other hand......my cable internet decided to hang up a few days ago and I had to unplug everything and disconnect the modem.....and then restart and reconnect to get my internet back. It seems like since then.......the problems have been worse.....as if my internet connection has been weakened/compramised *shrug* dunno. But it's a pain in the ass.

I'd never experienced chat lag until this past weekend, and it was terrible all weekend and last night, too. And everything in general was laggy mclaggerston last night. I spent a lot of time walking off into the sunset, through walls, down into floors for a minute or more at a time, and then snapping back to where I started. Repeatedly.

also recent.. sudden crash disconnect.. the client just closes. chatlag in IM and local.. building is haphazard because prims take time to rez or shift copy day before yesterday SL crashed and reset my router too.. which has NEVER happened before...
yesterday 3 ppl on an empty sim (only about 50prims used) .. lots of chat lag one person suddenly couldnt see the other 2 of us, nor any of the prims.. lag like walking through frozen mollassis (if thats how you spell it) in fits and starts.. then all three of us freeze.. cant tp home.. we all three crash.. relog and one ends up at an infohub unable to tp anywhere.. me i end up home no problem.. yure, whos home point is the same as mine ends up 0.0.0 underwater and relogs to find herself on the ground in our home sim... when i try to tp her to me she tp's but ends up in a different (wrong) place on the sim everytime..
methinks borked is here.

From: Meade Paravane People entering a region has been a source of lag for a long time. The more stuff the person has on, the more stuff the sim has to deserialize, the worse it gets. :0 though it's not always just that, it seems... one day last week i left my ARC readings on, and saw a couple pop into my place, with the woman reading 4k+ (and i was only reading about/under 1k) - no 'lag pops' at the time. then the next day, i went to a very quiet mainland sim and took off -everything-... clothes and attachments, i was reading only 0 or 1 or so - and yet i was still getting severe off-the-chart lost packets at least once a minute, sometimes coming every five seconds. it's mysterious... i know i've had everything from bad local connections (possibly hackers/griefers targetting my modem), to just plain bad 'net days', to other times when -everything else- on the web is fine - but not sl. :\ and then other times when everything's just fine and hunky-dory... just plain mysterious to me, at this point, where the issue really lies... (or is that lays? ;0)

/me adds a poll on if people are seeing a lot more chat lag lately: . I'll also link it to the server deploy thread that Dante Linden seems to be looking in on..

What I've been seeing doesn't behave like a memory leak.. The sim will be more-or-less fine then suddenly stop for a few seconds to a minute then start up again. I've been watching the perf stats a lot and really can't spot the pattern. I do see that the sim fps and time dilation do _not_ seem to notice this pause. I'm also sure it's not just me - others see it happen at the same time I do. Also tried writing a script to see if there was a pettern in how often it happened (timing a llMoveToTarget) but the results were all over the place - sometimes 5 minutes between pauses, sometimes 30 seconds.. LL restarted the region for me the other night but the problem was back the next day.

If you're seeing local chat lag and/or sim freezes, you can open up a support ticket to get help. Support can interface with internal technical resources to troubleshoot any infrastructure problems that might exist.

They told me they visited when there was 39 there, talking mainland here, and that the lag was due to all the people there. The problem still happens when the place is mostly empty too, though.

lag, chat lag, slow rez all noticed when av arrives in region
07-11-2009 23:05
All of the above i have noticed as well. i have owned my island region nearly two years, and always kept it pretty much lag free. Now I experience walking through syrup, total slowdown of movement, slow rez of textures, everything mentioned above. All this when there only a few (1-5) agents on the region. yes. when someone TP's in the time bars in stats peak , everything slows and gets constipated. One thing i did notice...this has been happening about the same time that an avatar is appearing in the region debug section when opening "Get Top Scripts". Avatars have been listing there, right along with objects. i have never noticed this before..has something been added? is this perhaps the reason the region stops when an avatar enters it now? are avatars being counted in the script usage calculations for script time now? they werent before as far as i know/////
