Who knows where the "roaring 20's" clothing shops are?

I am hosting a fundraiser for the RFL this coming spring, and we have an estate all set-up like the 1920's, and we combed the grid high and low, and I think we got the best of the best. This is easily double prim, museum quality house. So what better thing to do but have a costume party. A lazy sunny afternoon house party. With some big band and jazz, and costues from the roaring 20's.

So I know that some people have spent their time making these costumes. I want to compile a slurl or landmark list, to put into our notecards. So that way people have more time to get ready, and may have a clue where to begin searching for clothes to buy.

So suggestions? Who are the vinatage and antique clothing designers that you think are notable? And be sure to try and think of some for the guys too, it is so hard to find guys clothing.

The house is here http://slurl.com/secondlife/Provincetown%20West/223/156/24

Ooh, I'll definitely stop in. I love vintage goodies!

My favorites in that line are Ivalde and Ingenue. I'll check my LM tonight inworld and
update.

assuming you dont get one of the newer perm-raped versions, ivalde are the best bang-for-buck in the retro female clothing market. there are a few good shops in this style, but i am not in-world to look at my LMs

male clothing is going to be more problematic, i venture. maybe rfyre have something for men that can pass?

Lemania has some vintage things for women. Made Men has some nice 'gangster suits'. I know there's more, but I will have to check landmarks/folders later.

Try also, Cartunno Couture, they have flapper clothes and movie costumes. And Unreasonable Desires, a costume shop that might have things you can use, also.

I have better ones but will have to keep thinking. lol

Hmm.... Betty... Made by Betty.... Betty's Clothes? Lol.... I don't know the exact name, but for some reason, the name "Betty" sticks in my head. That's where I got some of my 1920s era men's clothes...

Let me tell you, I spent DAYS hunting for stuff that didn't look like freebie crap. Retro men's clothing is a helluva a pain in the ass to find. Ivalde and the majority of other retro clothiers are exclusively for women.

I still haven't found an authentic, high-quality retro clothing store for men... even the place I mentioned above is mostly women's clothing with a small section for men.

Scott: Would the store be "Total Betty"?

mika has vintage, burlesque, and showgirl things. Elegant vintage wear. It's been one of the best-kept secret types of places - oh well, let everyone else be pwetty too. lol

No things for men there. You might try visiting Victorian/historical/steampunk places, for nice vests and pants. It's mainly shirt collars, suit coat lapels, and tie widths that have changed for men; as well as pant cuff width/flare of course. But you could probably get by with some things you find in those types of places, if nothing else.

I still say the Made Men pinstripe suits are natty.

Dollz Town is another nice vintage mall.

Jewelry: You know those ahhh-some pearl necklaces that went down between the shoulder blades? sigh. This place has them, and more. Bit pricey, though.

Looks like I'm not going cos I'm giving away the best places. ;p

For shoes, Shiny Things isn't bad. Retro *shoes* are hard to find at times, although for women, Mary Janes work for a number of things.

Hatpins has a lot of $10L hats in one room that might help, as well.

ETA - more women's things:

Punch Drunk
Adam n Eve http://slurl.com/secondlife/Genesis/159/137/39 (hm, they have a 22-tie set in their bargain basement for 100L. also a 'nehru suit' for 1960s retro. and a seinfeld 'puffy shirt' hehe.)
a la folie (the 'Efronte' dress but others could also work) http://slurl.com/secondlife/FloMaramia/158/238/22

--

Men's:

Amaggee Wild Style. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Istanbul%20Edition/181/248/22 Zoot suits. In grey, red, or purple, has hat, vest, shirt, flexi tie, pants with gold chain. In grey, full suit with jacket or jacket only. (They also have a Nehru jacket, modern clothes, and a good toga or sandals. In case anyone looks for other unusual things.)

Maybe Pop wants to show up in his WWI uniform? Lufberry's Vintage Clothiers. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Tholtfinger/44/230/42

Got it!

1-800 Bettie's

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Roosa/217/26/36

Lots of vintage men's clothing upstairs. 1920s "Jazz suit" in many colors. 1940s tuxes. A wide array of hats.

Free female 'silver screen' retro-style avatar downstairs.

Their 'flapper' shoes are the most authentic-looking female 1920s everyday shoes I've yet seen. They also make nice 'theatrical' dance shoes, for those who are into performance arts in SL. (Sort of like Mary Janes, but with a much lower heel.) Their other female vintage shoes are also very authentic; not super shiny and modern, but more low key and realistic.

They do have, yes. Again more things for women than for men, but a nice selection of vintage suits for men, which is unusual. And a ton of hats, too.

For women, they have a lingerie set, seamed stockings, shoes, wigs, a hat or two, as well as clothing from various decades. Not a huge store like some but they cover their bases well.

Their landmark says the main shop may close soon. I hope not. A tip that might help shopowners? Put a qualifying word in your landmark. When people forget the name and search later, they can find it in inventory easier. And then will be more likely to return.

Not all stores show up well in SL search for some reason, either.

Anyway yes Bettie's is worth a trip for male or female avs, glad you mentioned it Scott. I'd forgotten about them.

Star Child has a nice range of vintage dresses but i recently discovered Sonatta Morales and they are by far the most glamourous vintage dresses I've ever seen, not cheap though...
