Hi All

Just installed my new pc and downloaded the latest version of SL...went to log in and I keep getting a message saying it can't log in - try checking the time and date settings (which are fine!).

I have Windows Vista Home Premium - do I need to do something else first or???

edited to say that I have tried re-installing sl and that didn't work either :(

TIA

Can't log in "because"?

It's not the firewall kicking in blocking the ports SL needs to connect?

Hi Broccoli

Thanks for your reply - it doesn't say why - it just says Unable to connect to secondlife then goes on about the time and date settings :(

Not sure about the firewall - I will look into those now.....

Hmmm... "try checking the time and date settings"... wild speculation here, but is the timezone set correctly?

This page may be of help, depending on what hardware/software config you have. Sorry I'm no expert, and I don't know what tech level you're at - but I'm sure others can.

I'm running on Vista Home with the Norton firewall working, so it's something annoying that's the problem.

It might be something in your router configuration that needs to be set. I expect it's the port forwarding.

What do you have between your computer and the internet? Modem, modem/router, are you on wireless or fixed wire, and are you on ADSL or cable? Model numbers are extra useful.

The time/date issue might be a red herring - often when there's a problem and the solution isn't known, software puts up any old error message - like the famous "An Unknown Error has occured" ... erm, if you know something's wrong, can't you tell me what?

Assuming you're writing to us here on that same PC, so you know you're talking to the internet correctly at least?

My money (what little I have) is still on the "port forwarding" on that link I sent earlier.

I'm assuming by your earlier response that you aren't too "tech savvy"... do you know someone who is that can look at that for you?

Thanks for all your help

if you do a forum search for

unable connect date time

you might find something in one of the results. Might help the guy next door if nothing else.

Heh, I bet that was the FIRST time ever someone had that error message and it actually WAS the date... ;)
