Viable idea for land sale?

I think, as we contemplate the landbot situation, that the idea of forcing everyone to confirm sales is a bad idea in general, as it will discourage transactions if they take too long to occur. The problem with landbots is a problem of instant gratification - people set their land for sale to anyone without thinking things through, they just want to get it done. People shopping for land want the land now. If they have to wait too long, the eye will wander and they may cancel the sale. Someone looking to sell land who is offline for an extended period of time may lose a sale and incur an extra month's tier.

So maybe a revision to the land sale process would be to make confirmed sale an option for those with the presence of mind to use it. Confirmed sale, and express sale, with an explanation that express sale will instantly permit buyers, including automated programs, to instantly acquire the land upon listing.

Of course, this is still fraught with risk, but how many times can you try to lead a person to think?

Is this a viable jira?

I dont think the problem is misunderstanding, and if it is no amount of dumbing down is going to fix it, I do think that a catcha image would be a really good start at security and only allow directly human controlled avatars make purchases of any type in SL not just land

Make the set to Anyone option more cumbersome than the sell to a specific avatar option. Laziness will save us all.

Agreed, and add a confirmation checkbox when anyone is selected, that snippet of coding would take all of 45 seconds to a person that knew exactly wher it was

If you are selling land to a certain person, why not have this option....

Have the ability to drag and drop land to a certain person (with a confirmation, of course to avoid accidents) either to the avatar or into their inventory. Allow you to set a price or not for it... if free, it transfers after confirmations from both parties, if money is required, it transfers after the seller confirms the sell and the buyer confirms payment.

I posed this idea since some people would like to actually confirm sale to another resident. An express sale makes it clear that it's express and instantly on the market, with no delay in sale.

The drag and drop idea is interesting, but land is not inventory. How would you do that?

As for making "Anyone" harder... maybe there should be more questions in the interface.
------
Set your price.

This works out to X L/square meter. Is this acceptable to you? Y/N

If you want to sell to someone you know, find their name here. (pull up person chooser)

Are you sure you want to sell this to someone you know? Yes / No, Don't care

If you want to sell this to anyone on the grid, would you like to confirm the sale before transferring land? Yes, confirm sale /No, allow instant sale

Instant sale will allow anyone, including automated avatars or "bots" to purchase the land without your approval the moment you complete the listing. Are you sure? Yes/No.

Of course, we just invented the better fool...

Yes. To the idea, not the fool comment, although that gets a yes too. :)

i think sales to 'anyone' should have a 5 minute delay before appearing in search.
that would solve the issue i believe.

... or make the problem worse, as every landbot operator has a bot sitting hovering in every sim looking for the land flag to change, before it turns up in search ... and nobody that actually owns and uses land there can get into the region because it's full of hovering bots.

well since theres 'no technical solution' at least we'd be able to engage in social solutions for the bots on our sims ;)

Put a dragable icon in the "About Land" window for the owner.

I had posted an idea similar to yours in another posting some time in the past. Put an option in the sell window to select whether a confirmation of sale is required before selling... defaulting to YES, but could be toggled off to allow instant selling (most of the lazy sellers that end up selling to a bot because they skimmed through the options would end up leaving this option on).

Lesson one on the landbot situation:

You cannot fix dumb. No matter how many check boxes, delays, approvals, screen filling warnings, etc... that you add; you won't fix the problem.

This is too true. And I do say this all the time.

But I'm tired of hearing blame at LL for people not using their noodle and treating their property as something of value. You made a mistake, own it the same way you own your successes. Yes, someone else was an ass - but own up to the fact that you were a dumbass for not checking. I was a dumbass once on this very issue but got lucky that it wasn't LM that snagged my land. But I didn't blame LL for it. I blamed ME.

I fear that by adding too many questions we will just thicken the glaze over people's eyes and people will still make the same mistakes.
