I just downloaded Audacity and when I set the file to 44100 is shrinks and plays faster than the orginal. How can keep the track length so it does not play faster when set to 44100Hz?

Not sure which version you're using -- just "select all" then use the "project rate" button in the lower left to change the file rate. This shouldn't change the actual wave form at all.

It's great you can "export as WAV"and you don't have to save your project first. I had to cut the file down to less then 10 seconds...actually less according to the timer then I exported it then closed the program without saving to keep the original as is.
