and you received NO drop down window asking if your avatar could be animated?..or is this the "F*** his head" animation where their avatar jumps on your shoulders?

Then again, the OP could be experiencing the head up one's butt bug, which is almost as old as SL itself. Everyone sees it eventually.

There's a free undeformer kit that also includes an anim stopper.

If you hadn't noticed, Tools - Stop All Animations isn't all that useful.

No one would. It's not exactly very effective either.

well I have 2 but one runs on the router, the other locally (mostly for outbound checking).

3 is a bit insane, and if more than one runs on a machine they can cause really bad problems, both locally and networked

Things I have encountered that do stuff like that to your avatar without permissions need you to click the screen somewhere to activate them - they put an invisible bubble around you, and when you click on the screen anywhere you unknowingly click on the invisible bubble and - Gotcha!

If you suspect deviltry afoot, use CMD-ALT-T and every invisible object on your screen will show up in translucent red.

The same sort of thing was happening a friend of mine back in June last year.
We never got to the "bottom" of it :p

Even now, months later... we are still wondering how etc.

Another possibility is someone may have succeeded in passing them a poisoned object to equip...

While updating MLP (the free script powering many sex beds), I found that this is a very simple thing to do. All you need to do is get someone give a script permissions ONCE, and until someone else gives it permissions, it retains them.

With MLP, if you relog or TP out while sitting, the script doesn't get the message and keeps your permissions. Thereafter, until someone sits on the same poseball, if anyone changes the pose on the MLP bed and you're in the vicinity, you'll get animated. This "feature" could easily be used for grief.

In the case of MLP, the script obtaining permissions is in a different object than the one you sit on, thus the permission popup. For permissions granted to a sat-upon object, I don't know whether there is special logic to automatically revoke permissions on "stand"; I'd have to test that.

Like "permission to take your $Lindens", there is no way to explicitly revoke animate permissions afterwards. It would be nice if there were a simple fix for this problem.

The bug is fixed in MLPV2, btw. Coming soon to a freebie warehouse near you.

I do remember a few amusing instances of seeing this MLP bug happen. Almost sad to see it go ...

Its only out of curiousity now that we wonder.. not out of necessity and wanting to stop it. Funny how it all stopped not long after there was a bit of objection by the person in question and the girlfriend, to the accusation leading to fall out

I've found that some poseballs will retain animation permission even after you stand up, and can continue to animate an avatar or even start new animations. It's possible the OP sat on a seemingly ordinary object that was actually scripted in this way. Forcing animations to stop should fix it though.

I'm not inworld right now so I can't check, but I think normal animation scripts have a call to stop their animation when the avatar stops using the item, ie stands up or detaches the object. Otherwise it just keeps going. I'm not sure about the permission though.

The router one is a hardware firewall and the other one a software firewall, that works just fine-I have that, too. But more than one software firewall just slows you down.

Close but not quite; see my post above. Your first two sentences are spot on.

The script can stop an animation, fine. But if for any reason it starts another animation (before it resets or asks someone for permission to animate), it will animate whoever it had permissions to animate.

The problem isn't whether the script stops the animation. It's that it starts *another* animation. Using Tools->Stop All Animations will stop it, but as soon as the script starts another on, you're dancing. Or whatever!
