I landed at a freebie place, and a girl walked over, stood about 2m from me, and went into appearance mode. She had a system skirt on, which then changed texture to a Tiny Empires hud, the same as I had on. I thought this was very odd, said "Hi, XXXX, that's a funny skirt you are wearing", and she immediately flew off without answering (possibly she spoke another language, but would have seen me using her name if she paid attention to local chat). She was 5 days old, so it's possible though highly unlikely that the texture came from a TE hud worn by her.
I use emerald, with skin/clothing layer 'protection' turned on. Scripts in the area were turned off. No other part of her avatar changed appearance.
I feel like she was fairly sus, or am I just being distrustful? Is there a SL glitch that can cause this effect? What's the general consensus?

Last time I was in a club... I turned on the 'media' for that club, and half the textures in the club, and on the clothes of about half the people there, suddenly changed to be a copy of the map showing the location I was last looking at... I also use Emerald btw - so this may be an Emerald rendering bug. Or perhaps a network 'packet loss' glitch - or a combination of both.

Perhaps the Tiny Empire hud image on your system was displayed on her skirt erroneously by your system.
That is, your computer mistakenly put either the texture on the hud or the image of the hud in your video ram or in a buffer got put the wrong place by your viewer.

That's a known issue where hud objects are mapped to avatar clothing, not likely a big deal. The media issue is known as well.

When she went into appearance that automatically rebakes textures. Your viewer picked up the wrong texture is probably what happened. I wouldn't worry much about it.

I think if someone made that comment to me, I would be embarrassed and leave too. Then again, I would not edit appearance in public...

There's weird stuff going on in the grid for sure. A few moments ago I noticed all the full transparent textures in my home changed into what looked like a sculptie texture. I looked in inventory and sure enough instead of an invisible texture it's a colorful smear. I tried it on a prim and it turned into what looks like false teeth.
Bizarre.

. *LOL* I've had this happen too (not false teeth though) when I TP'd home from a party on a sim, everything, all objects on my sim, and also people's wearables, were carrying a texture from the prior sim I was on. Was weird. A relog fixed it but I've had it happen a couple times. Sounds like that's what happened to Tiffy too. ETA: the girl probably didn't see her skirt like that, was probably in Tiffy's viewer.

Paranoia is becoming too common. Well, I worried whether it was a paranoia in today's suspicious climate, as I do not wish to be pulled to that level. But I am a very curious person, and I figure that's fine. I can't help but check out what people are up to. Yesterday, my hair turned up covered in sculptie textures. I reckon it's probably all part of the same thingo happening.

Soon after I joined in 2007, that texture-swapping thing started happening to me all the time. It can be very creepy looking--there is still a freebie window texture that I don't like seeing because of all the odd places it turned up. At the time, I was told that I needed to upgrade my video card, which I did, and the problem went away. If it has now returned as a general bug, that is very unfortunate. The bug hasn't hit to me yet, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't.
