How to disable IM's popping up

I often lead visitors or roommates (rl) around in sl (they watch with me over my shoulder) But I can't block Im's from popping up in my window. Sometimes I don't want others to read mt personal Im's. The only thing is the busy mode, which I don't want to use. Besides that it's also visible in the screen. Can someone help me with his?

Thanks in advance

I would suggest creating an alt for this purpose. Dress up the alt just like you, but make no friends, etc. It's a pain, but I don't think there's a way to completely turn off IMs, unless, like you said, to turn on Busy Mode.

The alt suggestion is a good one, but is there a reason that you cannot just tell someone that you are busy and get back to them? I usually get a couple calls a night when I am busy doing something else, and I just tell them I will talk to them later. Seems a lot easier than the alternative. Just my 2c

Yeah, what Colette said, and Busy Mode, what's wrong with it?

If you are using Linux, you can get the Cool SL third-party viewer. It has an option to hide IM's. Pretty handy really.

Here's the link: http://ldev.free.fr/

I think someone may have built a version for Windows. There are links at the Cool SL site that will take you to a Windows version.

I am a happy user of the Cool SL viewer but I am in no way affiliated with it. Your mileage may vary.

Open it up and place it off the edge with just a bit showing.

Strange, my IMs don't show until I press the IM button at the bottom of the screen. O.o

You can have IMs in chat.

You make it sound optional.

I thought that all IMs appeared in chat and that it wasn't possible to do anything about them other than telling the sender to shut their face.

Still, good tip up above about opening the IM window and moving it off screen! I'll give it a whirl! :)

if I keep my chat history window open and detached from the communications window

im's do not pop up on the screen, they are stored in the communications window until I click that little button at the bottom indicating there is an im

It works like that for me too Rhoarth.....only problem is that chat window takes up a lot of real estate on the scren.

I have so many windows open at any given time that the history chat window is only but a drop in the bucket LOL

(when creating I have at minimum 4 windows open, edit windows for items, textures open, scripts if working on things with scripts, and usually because I make clothes and such, I am in appearance mode)

heh

Why not use the Cool Viewer (Boy Lane has a windows version) and simply uncheck (Show IM in chat)? ;) (You'll also benefit from Nicholaz's fixes too!)

ya, that. I wouldn't run SL any other way. too often i'm afk, engaged in some IM, or what have you, and constantly have to scroll back to see what is going on around me. It can be resized pretty small, as long as you detach it from the friends list.

Thanks for your comments, I will try it out.

But in my screen the whole sentence from an im is popping up. There is no window with the message in it, just the sentence.

When i am talking to someone, I don't want to put in busy mode

I will report later.
