I am sure I'm recovering ground which already exists *somewhere*, but I can't seem to locate it myself. Please Help!!

I have a brand new computer with Vista and for some reason, I can no longer use voice. I can hear everyone else fine but, my ability to talk has been stopped. I have checked all my own areas on my computer, my mic works fine, I can record my voice, I can use skype and yahoo messenger, but coming into SL, I'm speechless.

Any ideas?

I have trouble with voice in SL and am not sure if it's Vista or my wireless mic or what.

This is what *I* have to do, maybe it will help you.......

1. make sure mic is plugged in (again, this may only be important because my mic is wireless.)

2. Launch SL

3. click the mic toggle and pray that it works

4. If it does not, go to "Voice Chat" then click the "Device Settings" button and see if that makes it start. That USUALLY does the trick but I have to do it every time.

sorry I cant be of more help

Make sure that your mic is actually enabled in your Windows audio inputs (the mixer thingie). Test it with some other software, like the recording applet.

Make sure your headset's (or mic, if it's separate) audio driver is selected in the SL Voice Setup preferences.

I don't have Vista, but did experience problems where voice would be working one log-in and not the next (dotless, if you will).

I'd go to preferences, run the voice wizard, log out (sometimes reboot my PC), then back in and typically that worked. Unfortuantely I'm techtarded, so I have no idea whether it was just some setting on my computer that reset with the reboot or if it was client related when the game restart worked.

I hope that gets resolved for you. Good luck!

No, I think had the trouble and it wasn't Vista (I'm running XP). Go to Device Settings in SL's preferences. Then CHOSE your input hardware (in my case, it's Soundmax Audio) for both and then see what happens. For some reason SL doesn't always automatically chose the input device by default.
