503 Sim Unavailable
The sim is not available. Please try again later.
But seriously, there is a rolling restart currently taking place; more info can be found on the blog.

I do somewhat chuckle at their blog updates though (probably cuz if I didn't laugh at it so much I would go nuts screaming): ~~~~~~~~~~ [UPDATE 1 Oct, 07 - 2:59 pm] We’re still wrapping this up; we’ll post an all-clear as soon as possible. [1 Oct, 07 - 1:57 pm] We’re almost finished. Thanks for your patience; we should be done very shortly. ~~~~~~~~~ If I told my users that I was "almost finished" and "should be done very shortly" and then an hour later told them I was "still wrapping things up" and then another hour later still hadn't posted the 'all clear', I would be run up the pole. [edit] Time difference - guess that last notice was just posted -- although the whole thing has still been 3 hours already and still many problems -- their wording still would never fly with my users [end edit]

Let's go with this one, cuz it isn't necessarily directed specifically at LL and so we could answer it: YES corps watch screw ups like this. [edit] Sometimes, anyway [end edit]

From: Dytska Vieria I give them a "5" for hourly updates Now that's not fair. They did say over an hour and a half ago that they were almost finished.

I think residents need to realize that after a restart of any sort the asset servers almost literally get cluster fucked by us poor addicted residents madly trying to get back on the grid and on with our SLives. This is the worst time to complain about the fact that they can not load your entire inventory right away, or that you are loosing items because the assest servers can not take the excessive load, maybe when asset server requests return to a more normal level if your stuff does not appear then you can complain.
As for Sims being up and down, I would suspect that it depends on what class server a particular Sim is on and how populated or vacant that Sim is. I would suspect the most populated Sims on low class servers would be the last to come back up, some servers may not even restart properly as the blog mentioned they are having to manually bring some Sims back up.

My business sim went down about 10 freakin times before the rolling restart hit.
After the rolling restart- ITS STILL GOING OFFLINE!

Maybe they could throttle logins so as not to throw the system into hysteresis. It isn't like this doesn't happen regularly. Nah, that would be too much like work which is prohibited by the Tao.

Well look at the threads by our fellow SL addict who can/could not log in due to a legitimate bug, throttling logins would cause the same ammount of screaming either way. Why can't we throttle ourselves?

Why can't we throttle ourselves? Assuming this is an honest question, we can't queue ourselves because we lack information about the current queue length. Contrariwise, LL does know the queue length, average time to service, and all the other data relevant to load throttling.
