It seems that the option to log in to a specified region has been taken out of Preferences now.
I'm having a problem where my home region is causing me a crash when I try to TP. In the past, I could get around this by setting my next log in to be a specific region, so I could log back in to a region that would let me TP out.
Is there another way to log in to a specific region?

I believe there is a place now in preferences where you can turn that back on.

I use Cool Viewer so apologies if this doesn't reflect how things are in the current official viewer, but you should be able to type a region name into the box at the bottom of the login screen where you can also select to log in to "home" or "last location" - just type any old region in the box. If you don't see that box, there's a way to make it show up in Preferences, probably in the same general area as where you select where you want to log in.

That box does not appear to exist anymore in the new viewer. It used to be there, but it isn't anymore. I have been trying to use --url, based on http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Client_parameters, but I'm having no luck with that either.

On Snowglobe it's still got the option in Preferences, General tab, for "Show Start Location on Login Screen". You can also use a link like secondlife://ahern, or use the slurl map in a browser, or (in winxp) do Start, run, type secondlife://simname, and press enter. If the sim name has a space in it, you might need to replace the spaces with %20 . http://maps.secondlife.com/ will let you pick a place to log in to.

Though my problems run deeper now, I can't log in at all, I'm getting "DNS could not resolve the host name." Waiting on live chat to help me with that. Geez, SL hasn't been working for me hardly at all since the viewer "upgrade" became mandatory and the recent rolling restart. My last support ticket remains unanswered for not being able to upload textures and save script edits. Edit: And I was wrong, the Start Location is at the bottom of the screen. I kept looking in preferences with the check boxes for home or last location.

With 1.23.4 viewer, go to Edit > Preferences > General tab > Start Location, and check the "Show start location" box, then click apply. That makes it appear under your name and password on the login screen.
You can type a location in the form "Cerura/100/33" (Region name/North/East) and it will log you in to that location, assuming the region is up.

Go to Preferences before you log in, and on the General tab it's the second tickbox.
