Calling Cards - A simple question

A person recently asked me to send them my "calling card".

OK....

I realized that I don't know how to do that. I GET calling cards when I add someone to my friends list...got that, but can I just SEND a calling card to someone (and how do I create one anyway...isn't it just a profile?).

A search of the KB produced no intelligent hits (a seemingly common phenomenon).

Thanks for any enlightenment.

Love, as always,

Spirit

It has always been on the pie menu - right click on the person. There's a chance it has been changed recently, but first check where it has always been.

I don't think you can "send" a Calling Card - although it would be nice to do so. The only way I know is to actually be able to right click on an avatar and give them your Calling Card - as Osprey said.

I can remember from a couple of years or more ago, seeing a place that had a box for visitors to drop Calling Cards in - at least I thought I did. Does anyone else know about this? Maybe it was functionality that has been dropped.

FWIW, I always delete all Calling Cards. They serve no purpose. They contain no information that is not available on somebody's profile. And they cause your inventory to load slower, because every time you log in or TP to a new sim, the asset servers have to check whether every person you have a Calling Card for is online.

right click someone, then more, then send calling card
yes you can send someone your calling card, all it will do is allow them to pull up your profile easier and see if you are currently logged (according to your settings)

you can only copy someone's calling card, not sure if there is a script that will allow you to give a calling card to an object
you can not have your own calling card in your inventory (as others can not transfer your calling card to you)

Not true.

In 2008 i made the mistake of deleting all 2000+ calling cards i had from 2003 to 2008 - and it made not a single bit of difference, in teleporting or logging in.

But i did lose the record and order in which i met and befriended people in SL from my first night to the day i deleted them.

I use them for just that purpose to be able to check back and see when I met someone

I have only deleted duplicate calling cards

They serve no purpose.

I use them all the time for conference chats.
Select each card for the people you wish to start the conference with, right-click and choose "Start Conference Chat". They all have to be online to be in the conference, obviously, and you can tell they are online because their names are bold. If you want to add someone else, just drag and drop the card onto the conference chat panel. You can also make sub-folders to help organize the cards and make starting conference chats easier; just start it with the folder.

Naz, they may not have a purpose to you, but there are people who use them. Some people use them a lot -- as in multiple times per day.

I'm with you, Naz. I delete mine regularly as well. I just don't like them in my inventory. To me they are just a nuisence and keeps my numbers high. I know others use them but I can't imagine what for.
