Remove the hair (you need to rez it in a build area), then unlink that strand (edit just that part) and copy it, link it together again (link the main hair part last), then wear it and edit.

 a. Right click and choose edit on your hair. b. Click little box (in top corner of pic b) that says 'edit linked parts' click on the hair part you want to copy. c. Press ctrl-shift-L. It will turn yellow to show it is unlinked. d. Hold down shift and drag the hair part using one of the edit arrows. I made several copies for example. e. Click on the hair part, the hair part copy, and then the main hair. f. Press ctrl-L to link them all together. The parts will turn blue to show they are linked again. g. Edit the new copied hair part to however you want.

Edit the new copied hair part to however you want. For step E, you need to click on the hair part, then hold down SHIFT key while clicking on the others, to add them to the selection. Also, if you forget control-L and control-shift-L, just look in the Tools menu for "Link" and "Unlink".
